Pelgrim Brewery is a cozy brewpub with great food and a nice variety of house beers. It is located in a casual area near a historic church and a classic windmill, overlooking a small canal with boats. The building is two story brick with restaurant neon signs in the windows and a couple of flags. Outside is a row sidewalk patio tables. The brewery logo is a colonial sailing ship like the Pilgrims used, and they use the word Mayflower in a couple of their food and beer names. Just inside on the left is a dedicated room for their old brewery which has wood jacketed copper brewing vessels. There is also a small hand-operated bottling station, and a pallet of empty bottles to be filled. Down a hallway straight ahead is an exit to their enclosed outdoor brick patio with several tables, a nice spot. From the entrance to the right is the bar room which has a 7-stool wooden bar and a dozen dining tables. The floor and ceiling are wood, and the walls are white with wood trim and a perimeter beer bottle collection. Candles provide soft ambient lighting, and smooth classic music is playing. The place has a relaxing, rustic atmosphere, and the service is good. The staff is welcoming, friendly and helpful. A chalkboard behind the bar lists their 6 house beers on tap, and they also have a few additional varieties in bottles. The beer is pretty good, and tends to be full bodied and flavorful. My favorite was their Tripel. They have an awesome food menu of home-style comfort foods. The beef stew was heavenly, so tender and aromatic. Their fondue was also quite tasty, and has a different texture than the traditional Swiss fondues I was accustomed to. After several good beers and a fantastic hearty meal, I left...
Read moreMy experience of this cafe is very bad. It was not very busy and there were 3 waiters walking around. Somehow not nearby our table though. It felt awkward because we were the only coloured people in the place. Anyways at the time we didn’t think about this and patiently waited for 20 minutes. One of us went to ask a waiter if we needed to order inside but she said that they had seen us and one of them would come to help us as soon as possible. After 10 more minutes we saw the waiters helping other people who came after us and we were just completely ignored. We felt so bad, we got up and left. No one cared about it though. Mind it, it’s a tiny terrace. I am now in the ‘waren of delfshaven’ and I can see across the canal, the table we were sitting at previously at Pelgrim Cafe already has other customers and they have their beers served already (within the 10-15 minutes since we left). I felt the need to write this review because this was not the first time this happend to me and my friends at this cafe. Previously we thought that they lacked in their service because it was quite crowded but this time it was definitely not crowded. A one star is too much but unfortunately we can not...
Read moreStadsbrouwerij de pelgrim is a really nice place. They have many different kind beers that are all being brewed there. The best thing that you can get is the beer tasting set ( 5 different small beers for 13.50 euro). You will have to ask the staff for this because it is not on the menu (I don't know why they don't put the best thing on the menu). When I drank the beer tasting they gave me the speedwell beer, mayflower beer, bradford beer, and another beer which I forgot the name (not the billington because that one was sold out).
The service could improve a bit. Ordering went fast but we had to wait too long for our food ( around 1 hour, when it was lunch time on a Saturday). But the wait was worth it. Their hotdog is the best one you can find in Rotterdam. The fries are really tasty and baked long enough to have them perfectly crispy.
The location is also really good in the center of Delfshaven ( an old harbor of Rotterdam). The brewery is pretty big with many seats. You can sit outside at the waterside, inside and also inside at the garden which is my personal favourite.
I will definitely...
