The Harbour Club Rotterdam — Restaurant in Rotterdam

My partner and I recently decided to try HC Rotterdam as different to Amsterdam locations. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming hostess, setting a positive tone for the evening. The ambiance of the restaurant is chique and met our expectations.

We decided to try pre-set menu food (standard as for premium the restaurant did not have availability of all courses). The food, I must say, was exceptional and harmonious. The presentation was impeccable, and the quality of the ingredients shone through, making each course a pleasure to savor. The pre-set menu offered a journey through a variety of textures and tastes, and it was clear that a great deal of thought had gone into its curation.

However, our experience was marred by a significant oversight. Despite having informed the restaurant of gluten intolerance at the time of reservation and reiterating it when ordering, we were still presented with dishes containing gluten. This oversight required us to be vigilant and double-check each course, leading to some exchanges of dishes to accommodate dietary restrictions. Such lapses in attention to detail were unexpected and disappointing, especially in a setting where one anticipates a seamless dining experience.

This disruption affected the flow of our date night, as we had to constantly check on the ingredients and be particularly careful, as well as engage with the staff to ensure the safety of the meal. For a restaurant of this caliber, we expected the service to be more attentive and personalized, particularly when it comes to dietary needs that were communicated well in advance.

In conclusion, while the food was indeed delightful and the pre-set tasting menu offered good value for the price, the service fell short of our expectations for a fine dining experience. Really disappointed, as I attended here my birthday dinner and it didn't reach the expectation we exacted from a restaurant like this.

Although the place is really nice, the food is definitely overrated. It's not a place I would ever go to again. We were extremely disappointed with the oysters we received, especially for the price we paid, most of them hardly had anything in it or were empty. Further, the fish I ordered wasn't as fresh as im used to, so that was quite disappointing. However, I know my family enjoyed their dishes.

The lady at the front door was quite rude and we didn't feel she wanted to even be there. Personally, I don't think she is suited for a front reception role as it is supposed to feel quite welcoming, which it didn't, although I had a booking we were made to feel very unwelcomed.

Overall, the service was okay, but we were tucked away behind a pillar and kept having to wave down the waiter which was frustrating.

The atmosphere was probably the best part about it. It is designed beautifully, it is really well thought out, just needs the service to match its 5* look which it didn't which was disappointing.

The food at Harbor Club Rotterdam is truly amazing! Not just because it’s expensive, but because it’s genuinely delicious. You can tell they take pride in the quality they serve. The service is equally impressive; each section has a dedicated waiter, and they’re incredibly friendly and attentive. However, I did find the tables a bit too close to other customers, which can make it feel slightly cramped.

The toilets are clean, but I think they could be improved to match the luxurious vibe the restaurant is aiming for. It’s definitely a place to see and be seen, but the standout for me is the food. After dinner, we moved to the bar, and the cocktails didn’t disappoint! They were just as good as I hoped.

I’m a fan of high-end restaurants like those in Asia, and this one holds up well. If you visit in the evening, you might find the restaurant a bit too dark.
