I requested a reservation at Isola restaurant for dinner on New Year’s Eve for 8 people at 8:30 pm. Someone from the restaurant (I think her name was Shauna) called me to to tell me that they only had a table for 8 inside or 2 tables of 4 on the outside terrasse. Since we wanted to be outside we accepted to sit at two tables for 4 near one another. When we got to the restaurant on New Year’s Eve, to my astonishment, the hostess asked if we were aware that it was a set menu at 130$USD per person that night. I told her that no one had mentioned that and that it was not mentioned on their website when I made my request for reservation. She said that they should have told me on the phone. Given that it was 8:30 pm and we were 8 people, we didn’t have much of a choice but to accept. The restaurant reviews had been good so we thought it would be ok. Also no drinks were included other than a glass of « champagne » in their words which was prosecco! We were served frozen vegetables, a tasteless vegetarian lasagna, lentils with a piece of sausage in the middle. I feel like we were taken advantage of and were scammed. The meal was extremely subpar and it cost us $1400USD. I would never have ordered any of the items that were served to us. What was supposed to be a great family New Year’s Eve dinner celebration while on our vacation turned out to be the biggest disappointment and I was left with a significant hole in my wallet. To blindside customers when they show up with the announcement of a set menu at 130$ per person is outrageous. I had done research beforehand to reserve a restaurant on New Year’s Eve, if I wanted a set menu at 130$+ I could have reserved a good one but I chose Isola because it was not advertised as having a set menu on New Year’s Eve. If I could have given less than a 1-star rating I would...
Read moreI like Isola, but they missed the mark on their seafood risotto. They advertised the risotto to include sea scallops. When I received my dish there were no sea scallops. I searched and searched and I found bay scallops. There’s a HUGE difference in these two types of scallops and a major price difference. Bay scallops are the very small scallops and are cheap. The sea scallops are very large. They also taste different. If you are going to advertise sea scallops then that’s what I’m expecting to receive. Don’t do a bait & switch and pretend like no one would notice. If bay scallops were being advertised I probably wouldn’t have ordered the dish because I love sea scallops! I sent the dish back because this is not what I intended to order. Also I took a few spoonfuls of the risotto and the flavor was good, but I had sand in my mouth probably from the clams or mussels. My husband asked what was I crunching on? I said there was no shells in my mouth so it must be sand. Yuck!
The eggplant appetiser, the garlic bread, and the chickpea soup was delicious. My husbands complaint was there wasn’t any taste of the rosemary in the chickpea soup, the sautéed spinach was bland, and the polenta wasn’t creamy enough. He’s an executive chef so he...
Read moreCame here twice on our two week vacation. First time as take out the night we arrived and the pizza was good. The basil was forgot on our Margarita pizzas, which in my opinion makes the pizza. Also, after ordering online and going 15 or so minutes later, the guy seemed upset because he hadn’t even started making the pizzas yet and felt like we were rushing him. Which was not the case. We simply ordered online and walked over and waited. It was not a big deal. The Caesar salad was good both for take out and dine in. The second time we tried the place we decided to dine in. The portions we received were small compared to other people we saw eating. The fettuccine Alfredo was delicious and a decent size portion. However, the lasagna and eggplant Parmesan were small and not as filling. Overall, for the price compared to the quality of food, there are probably better Italian restaurants on the island. We went to another Italian establishment and thought it was better during our stay but I won’t hype other restaurants on this review. Although it is convenient because it is right on the resort, it might be worth it to take a taxi elsewhere if looking for...
