Bij Hem — Restaurant in The Hague

Disappointing, after reading good reviews I decided to have a lunch in Bij Hem. Started with the pumpkin and onion soup, 15 min waiting time, a bit watery and both soups lacked of seasoning. Onion soup comes with melted cheese on a toast. Then we’ve been waiting 50 minutes (!!) for a burger from a special menu , with deer, champignons, grilled veggies and fried potatoes s with rosemary. It’s impossible to taste the venison (if there is any) , frozen meat (mixed, like paté, hardcore well-done, almost like a stone), cold - sweet albert-hijn quality buns (just put them on the grill), a few green leafs, spoon of butter/mayo and 4 slices of champignon for 18€!!!! I really expected something amazing from the special menu and waiting time but it was far away from any standards. Good and friendly staff, nice atmosphere. I’ve seen they have more than a hundred gin-tonic combinations. Maybe this is where all these good reviews come from. Remove this burger from the menu and take care of...

Together with a friend we were around the area around the time of a World Cup match, we thought it would be nice to watch it and enjoy some food so we booked a place. The waiter was nice and told maybe people would let us take chairs if they allow so, the place was full and we thought that one place can be good as we saw an available chair, but when I respectfully asked a customer whether it’s fine if we take two chairs so we can have a seat and watch at the same time (we went to ask before we noticed that these are seats of customers who probably were outside for some time) then the owner immediately came. We didn’t feel welcomed, the owner seems to be racist as when he came immediately, he insisted on that if we don’t have a seat in the only available place (in the corner, where the screen is invisible) they don’t have a...

We are two Americans who have been here in Den Haag for 7 days, Bujhem Eten and Drinken was clearly the BEST restaurant at which we have eaten. We went on Easter evening. We called ahead and were told a table could be reserved for us. We promised to arrive in 10 min. We kept our end of the bargain, and when we arrived, our table had a "Reserved" sign on it and the staff members were both courteous and attentive right from the start. We were offered very good suggestions, one can depend on the staff if one needs them. We also had a dessert, the one the waiter suggested, and it was excellent. At the end of the day, this restaurant had prices that were reasonable, with service that was exceptional. The staff really cared that we had a nice time.
