Huppel The Pub — Restaurant in The Hague

We visited three nights in a row on our recent trip to The Hague. Sunday night Levi was working, Monday night Marjolijn was. They each made the experience totally unforgettable! So warm, attentive and welcoming (and very helpful with choosing beer and jenever). Sadly Tuesday night, the barman created a vibe that was like a totally different bar. We left after just one round, but ended up next door at Café Momfer De Mol and had a great night there. We will certainly return to Huppel The Pub, though on a Sunday or Monday night! The amount we spent simply reflects how long we stayed the first two nights, not that the pub was pricey. Actually the prices...

I had an excellent night at Huppel The Pub. I was only in The Hague for one night and went to have a drink and read an e-book. A local asked me my story and that lead to an evening filled with discussions and making new friends (not my usual thing). Everyone was extremely friendly, staff and patrons alike,

The bar staff walked me through Genever and beer pairings allowing me to sample a good cross section and gain a better understanding of this lovely drink. After making several new friends, some locals took me to their favourite gyro place to end...

Very popular with locals; I think they rate it highly because they have great fun getting together there, especially in summer with tables outside. But for a tourist, it has no attraction. The decor idea is lots of shelves with lots of bottles. The bartender is very nice but wasn't really helpful with beer selection. Beers on tap very limited (no dark beer at all) and the ones I tried were not great. The worst, though, was the small plate of meatballs the bartender recommended. Flavorful, but...
