Very lovely vibe cafe with some nice art on the walls and cozy decoration. Friendly warm welcoming staff. I had the grilled bread with smashed avocado (vegan) and latte macchiato with oat milk (side note: no cookie with the coffee). While waiting for my friend I ordered the same portion for her also, she has tomato allergy and the portion had tomato on it, there was no mention about it on the menu (I wish there would have been a list of the main ingredients). Therefore I am mentioning it just in case it's helpful for others. The food was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. I think it would have been even better with the house kimchi extra that I didn't order (which I regret a little bit). Especially when there was no vegan mayo with the portion (the non vegan options seemed to have more sauces). At least there was no misleading information like in some other places that claim to have vegan mayo but when you order it is not available. Still I would be pleasantly surprised if a cafe did have vegan mayo, it would be thoughtful. Personally as an avocado bread fan I would have liked some slices of it on the plate, even though it had smashed avocado it was not much visible underneath the other ingredients. But I could see there was still a lot of thought put on the presentation and added spices so the bread was still highly on the plus side. Someone on a light diet would definitely be happy with this kind of portion. I would definitely recommend this place for people who like a cozy little gem of a place on a side street. Wasn't too busy or packed up like some of the bigger cafes. 5 vegan options on the menu and some...
Read moreWe went to Filtro for the coffee and that we got. Specifically, hand-poured filter coffee. They have several roasts at display, available to also smell them before choosing. The beans were exclusively from DAK, which is a super fine roaster. There was s selection of around 6 roasts.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and they prepared the coffee well. We were offered to take a seat while waiting, but it didn‘t take that long anyway.
The pastries looked good, but we didn’t try them. The ambience was also appealing, but we had the coffee to go so can‘t judge that really either.
They had also quite some ads for their matcha. My partner has quite strong feelings about matcha, which he wishes to express:
I haven‘t tried the matcha. But from the mere fact that it was advertised mostly in the form of matcha latte, I could tell that it wouldn’t have been worth it. This was definitely not ceremonial grade matcha as promoted by the store. The packages and flyers had instructions for matcha latte on them but not for the traditional preparation. None of the packages for sale were cooled… good matcha needs to be cooled to keep its flavor properly! The price also indicated that this was not ceremonial grade matcha. If you go there for matcha, you‘ll get matcha that is made for matcha latte. It might be good matcha latte, but it is still matcha latte. But don‘t let the posters fool you!
Rant over.
It‘s a nice café. Try the coffee. It‘s...
Read moreWe used to come here regularly for vegan food, coffee and drinks. We loved it then. It was a highlight of any day in the centre. But recently the quality has really dropped. The atmosphere has changed as well, the music is loud and aggressive. The service has never been fast but it was worth the wait before, but now it's definitely not. 15 minutes for a coffee on a slow day had better be worth it. But they got the coffee order wrong, and the mango lassi just tasted of watery grated apple. The toasties used to be on artisan sourdough, the kimchi inside the toastie, the bread really grilled until the outside was all crispy, it used to come with a great salad and dressing on the plate. Now it is flaccid white pitta-texture "panini", barely toasted, a tiny tom-thumb sized bowl of kimchi next to the toastie, no salad. (You can compare the quality in before-and-after photos in Google reviews!) The cakes were house-made before, whole tarts on show, with several vegan options every day. Now they come by the slice and look factory made, and the one vegan cake option was unavailable. I understand cutbacks during a difficult economy, but they have lost what made this place special in the...
