Visited Restaurant Zheng on Saturday the 15th of February and while the food was extremely delicious, I was a little disappointed as I felt it was mostly European food with some hints of Chinese cuisine served in a Chinese banquet style. I was hoping that the fusion would be Chinese led, as in, more of a celebration of Chinese food with elements of European cooking. My favourite dish was Scallop and Halibut with a sweet and sour sauce, which was it was incredible. The Lobster and Prawn dim sum with Herring Caviar and Black Cod with Green Pepper sauce (fish menu alternative to the main course) were also fantastic. The two cocktails (one used a tea-infused gin) we had at the beginning were also great.

The main negative for the evening for me was the service. While the staff were very welcoming and friendly, the timings between each course were very inconsistent. After an hour and a half, we had received a cocktail and 2 courses, both of which relatively small. The timings between courses throughout the meal varied from 10 minutes to 30-40 minutes. This would have been less of an issue if the first few courses were faster and then the rest of the meal had longer between each course, but as it was, I was very hungry for the first half of the meal and then extremely full by the end. The waiter who brought us our wine said "I don't want to see you pouring your own wine" but then returned to our table only once. We did wait for them to come back again but ended up doing it ourselves, which is fine, but if you say you're going to do something like that then you should be following through. I appreciate the intention, and that the person was busy with other tasks, but I would suggest not saying that originally and just doing it if they can.

Overall, I would say my experience was 7/10 and I would recommend a visit as the food itself was really fantastic and while it is one of the more expensive placed in The Hague, I do think it...

If you’re looking for a restaurant to spend a special occasion (or to impress someone) this is the place to go! The interior gives modern Chinese temple with a spacious dining area that yet allows for intimacy. Our waiter was friendly and very (!) attentive (maybe a bit too attentive). We felt a bit pressured into ordering the duck (I am vegetarian) and then when we told him I was vegetarian, he tried to sell me the fish menu and was quite disappointed when I went for the vegetarian 5 course menu. He was also audibly disappointed when we did not go for a bottle of wine. I understand the idea of upselling and I have worked in service myself but I was missing a bit of subtleness. After we ordered, another waiter brought the food and I wish I would have asked for his name to credit him, as he did an outstanding job at explaining and presenting the dishes and managed to be conversational and funny without being intrusive. Now… THE FOOD… not just was this one of the most inventative and aesthetically pleasing menu I have seen, it was also very very tasty. I am always impressed whith a vegetarian menu of this high quality in taste. Every dish was an experience and the way they draped them Infront of us made it even more unique. We did not go for the wine pairing, as I always feel like that’s way too much wine but had a nice glass of red wine and a glass of champagne, both delicious. My personal highlight was the desert course consisting out of 3 variations of cherry desert. Lovely! Will come...

We visited the restaurant with a group of 8 for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, our experience was bad from the start. The receptionist (at the bar entering the restaurant) was a masculine type of girl with short hair who was very bossy and pushy. She seemed to be trained to get the customers to order immediately (and to generate revenue, typically Chinese, more about the business than about customer service), so we had to tell her to relax. She promised to come with a surprise for the birthday, but she never came back and we did not get a surprise. At the end, the same girl from the beginning did not say goodbye, but was just having drinks with colleagues at the bar. For the level and price of the restaurant, this was simply unacceptable and ordinaire. Even at the food market you are treated better. Even when we tried to talk to her colleagues, nobody came back to us. The quality of the food: super expensive for what it is. It seems you are paying for the renovation of the restaurant. The atmosphere is just weird. Be careful with the tea: only the first cup is for free, if you take more, they charge you an outrageous price (more than for a good glass of wine). Since they do not inform you of this, this is fraudulent! Having been a group of 8, and considering the amount our group paid, we did not even get a compensation or small surprise on the house, also not for the bad behavior. The whole restaurant is fake, too much show and no substance. We will...

I was looking forward to a fine dining experience with a fusion cuisine, but I'm afraid I ended up having a disappointing time. I had the 6 chapters menu: it started quite promising in terms of texture and taste, but it continued with a reptitive and limited range of flavours. Food is just okay, nothing out of the ordinary, just dressed with a lot of sauce drops but lacking originality and vision. They present most dishes on gimmicky props (sometimes first bringing a prop which feels cheap and half-broken on the table, leaving it there for minutes before they put the plate on top). The best dish was the first fish dish, and the worst was the dessert. The selection of wine by the glass could be extended. Service was kind but lacked a lot of polish, starting from their too informal and inadequate attire. I had four different waiters due to inconsistency in waitressing and not for any specific purpose. Dieshes were well-explained, but all in all the service felt too inconsistent and sometimes too informal. Atmosphere is alright, could have better lighting. All in all, I feel it is a place that lacks creative direction and attention to detail. For a €100 per person average, I believe it should improve substantially. Yet again, fine dining culture in the Netherlands tends to be opportunistic and lackluster, economical and gimmicky, trendy and disappointing for the price tag.
