As a Mexican this is my most honest review about Queru: Starting from the welcoming, when we arrived our table was customized with our names which was a nice gesture. They explained to us that is not authentic Mexican flavors but a Mexican fusion and in fact it is. As a Mexican, I was extremely happy that it is NOT a Tex-mex restaurant just trying to show the Mexican stereotypes. Queru is a really Mexican fusion restaurant. The music choices are amazing, the decoration has a great taste. The service is friendly and they explain to us the restaurant's concept and the menu which we highly appreciated. Now the food, we ordered totopos, gringa and churros. The totopos were authentic and we like the flavor, but I didn't like the sauce they put as we normally eat crunchy and with mashed beans and/or guacamole. However, the sauce changed the harmony of the dish. The gringa was very good. The flavor, the presentation and the portion were amazing. Regarding the churros, we give 10/10. The flavor is 100% authentic. However, my suggestion is to offer them with different sauces as many people enjoy them with cajeta or chocolate rather than the sauce they provide. The menu has less options and we found the price of the tacos extremely high (one taco 5-6 EUR) and tacos come with less filling for the price. Maybe if they offer 3 small tacos per portion rather than one, it will be more attractive. The chelada (beer with lemon) is also very good.
Overall, we recommend...
Read moreBy Googling for Mexican food/taco’s, I stumbled upon this great place where you can enjoy some delicious comfort food and delicious cocktails. It is Mexican-street food, with a modern twist that is.
My description of Queru: Good vibes! Good food! Good drinks!
The personnel is genuine, very friendly and they know their food and drinks very well. They are very knowledgeable indeed!
The food was absolutely delicious! I had the “Taco de choriqueso” and the “Taco de baja prawns”. They were absolutely delicious! A party in my mouth, soft, crunchy, sweet, sour, not too salty and not spicy at all!
To add some spicy goodness, they did provide a habanero(?) “spicy” hot sauce with pineapple. I have to say though, that I am used to my grandmother’s spicy chutney... So the sauce was not spicy at all haha!
One little let down for me, were the “Churros” I had as my dessert… The thing is, I know what good and tasty churros taste like. Crunchy on the outside and still soft on the inside. The ones that I got were crunchy on the outide and crunchy/dry on the inside…
So if I can give you guys some specific feedback, please take a look at your recipe and the way you bake the churros. There is definitely room for improvement there.
Still, I’m going to give Queru 5 stars. It’s a great and tasty addition to the city of The Hague. Highly recommended to spend some...
Read moreA bit disappointed. When we went to Ruiseñor (the owner of Queru is the same of Ruiseñor), I was on fire as I heard a 'cantina with real tacos' was soon to open in Den Haag. I thought: OMG ladies and gentlemen, we found them! 💪🎶💃I was thrilled because out of the options available in the city (4 to be precise) none of them offered the real-deal of 'street-like' food -in their own way they offer good options but not close the original. Sooo hearing this one was destined to be THE one made me extremely excited.
Instead, what we got was a less polished version of Ruiseñor. I was so disheartened... we are back to square one, with more of the same "polished version of Mexican cuisine'. The food was good, but not real Mexican, homemade, that-will-bring-you-to-tears food. For tourists is fine. For those of us looking for a piece of our #terruño, not really.
The stars I'm giving are more for the good service than for authenticity. I hope as it matures, Queru becomes THE to go place that allows people to feel Mexico's rich culinary traditions. 💔😞
