Krishna Vilas, nestled in the heart of Utrecht, is a hidden gem for connoisseurs of South Indian cuisine. My recent visit to this culinary haven with my family was an experience to remember, leaving us truly impressed.

Ambiance and Atmosphere (5/5): Upon entering Krishna Vilas, we were greeted with an inviting ambiance. The restaurant is spacious and well-designed, ensuring ample seating without feeling cramped. Warm, earthy tones and tasteful décor create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. It's an ideal place for family gatherings, intimate dinners, or even solo dining.

Service (5/5): The service at Krishna Vilas was impeccable. The staff was attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable about the menu. They guided us through the diverse selection of dishes, making our dining experience enjoyable and stress-free.

Culinary Selection (5/5): Krishna Vilas truly shines in its culinary offerings. The menu boasts an extensive array of South Indian delicacies, from dosas to biryanis, each prepared with authentic flavors and meticulous attention to detail. You could find a plethora of options to tantalize your taste buds here. The standout for us was the masala dosa, which was crisp, flavorful, and served with an array of delectable chutneys and sambar.

Taste (5/5): The hallmark of a great restaurant is undoubtedly the taste of its dishes, and Krishna Vilas excels in this aspect. Every dish we sampled was a burst of flavors. The use of fresh ingredients and traditional South Indian spices elevated the dining experience to new heights.

Overall Impression (5/5): Krishna Vilas offers a delightful blend of fantastic food, impeccable service, and a warm ambiance. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic South Indian dining experience in Utrecht. Whether you're a seasoned fan of South Indian cuisine or new to its flavors, Krishna Vilas will leave you craving for more.

My family and I left Krishna Vilas with full hearts and satisfied palates, already planning our return visit. If you're in Utrecht and in search of an exceptional South Indian dining adventure, Krishna Vilas is the place to be. It's an experience that lingers long after the...

As a true blood Indian, extremely loyal to the country’s multidimensional cuisine and having travelled extensively around the world on my diplomatic status and otherwise, I am always longing to eat at Indian restaurants serving authentic cuisine in foreign lands, often leading to disappointing experiences as many such restaurants fall to the trap of localising Indian cuisine, leading to neither here nor there kind of taste experience.

Having said that, Krishna Vilas in Utrecht begs to be refreshingly different. To start with, it serves a fusion of delicious North Indian and South Indian cuisine to choose from which itself is very unique even to restaurants in Indian cities.

As a resident of Utrecht since the last three years, I am a regular at Krishna Vilas since it’s inception and have tried almost every item on their extensive menu.

If you are new to Indian cuisine and are looking for a feel of complete full meal experience with a single dish on their menu, you should try their North Indian and South Indian Thalis (Thali means a ‘meal platter’). They come with varieties of freshly made Indian curries and gravies with the right amount of spice and heat quotient alongside crispy Indian bread like Roti, Naan or Puri coupled with an Indian sweet dish.

If you are looking for the typical ‘Indian tiffin’ (small portion meals) you should try from their yummy varieties of Idly, Vada and Dosas (Indian pan cakes) which are crispy and come with an accompaniment of three varieties of chutney (gravy dips) and sambar (lentil soup). They have a wonderful variety of flavoured rice items, each unique to vast regions of India. The hospitable, ever smiling and efficient restaurant staff will guide you in choosing dishes suiting your taste buds.

Two typical Indian beverages which are must to try in Krishna Vilas are their ‘Masala Chai’ and ‘Mango Lassi’.

Kudos to Mr and Mrs Sharavanan, the founders of this food chain.

The bottom line is ‘it’s highly enriching to eat drink and make...

My original rating was 5 stars, but now I wish I could give zero stars. Had the worst experience ever at any restaurant ever! We had a reservation for 6:30, and as we were seated, we were told that we would have to vacate the table at 8:15, since they needed it for another reservation. We thought that was a very strange request, but we said we'd be done by then anyway, if the food comes on time. This all happened before we were even given any menus. Anyway, we thought the menus would be coming, but even after 15 minutes, there was no sign of any menus. We had to ask someone for the menu. The same story continued with no one coming to take our order. Finally we managed to place our order around 7:20, and of course it then takes time for the food to arrive. But then what happened next is literally the most ridiculous thing ever! At 8:15, we were told to vacate the table and leave WHILE WE WERE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR DINNER! This was just madness! We were not able to believe what was happening. We were literally forced to leave in the middle of our dinner! When we demanded to speak to the manager, we were told that the manager is on vacation, and we were promptly given the restaurant card and asked to call them later when the manager would be available, but for now, we would have to leave the restaurant, even though we were not done with our dinner. I'm still in shock of how we were misbehaved with and humiliated. Cannot even describe this as poor service. I just have no words.

All in all we went to this restaurant with a reservation, to pay them to get humiliated. Never again am I coming here ever again. Have some shame and learn how to treat other human beings...

We had a lovely time at Krishna Villas Utrecht! The 203, 214, 403 and 404 were all lovely. We even ordered the samosa's again as a desert. Lastly we also ordered another appetizer (see picture), which was alright but least interesting of all we had had. We will come back and try more dishes! The 403 and 404 dosa were amazing but you'll probably need more than just one main dish to fill you up. It was about 65 euros total for 4 appetizers, 2 main dishes and 4 drinks. Pretty damn good deal! And the waiters were so kind as well. Only small downside is it took a pretty long time between rounds to get served. It was busy and you did have to specifically make eye contact with a waiter every time you needed something (which isn't a bad thing, just good to know so you don't just wait until someone pops by to check if you need anything). Edit: We visited again, but this time with 4 people. Banana Bajii was fun try to try out and tasty but really salty. Manchurian gobi was nice but we liked the mushroom one much better, it was much crispier and the mushroom itself had way more flavor. We had samosas again. For mains we had 502, 513, 514, 515 with naan (garlic naan and cheesy garlic chilly naan). I tried a little bit of all and they were equally tasty. Very homemade feel, very comfy. The cheesy garlic naan tasted almost exactly like how we make pasta agli e olio. This time we were absolutely STUFFED, even though we had 1 appetizer and 1 main this time instead of 2 appetizers and 1 main per person. The naan really does fill you up! Once again really excited about everything. Service was kind, restaurant was much calmer and waiting times were less. Would still recommend!

Update: I still continued going to this place after my experience and definitely see a good change. I am very happy with the food and the service. A place to eat very authentic South Indian food. Old: I am a regular customer here and never had any issues with my order or the quality. Its one of my favorite restaurants in Utrecht and I have brought number of my friends there and recommended it to numerous people. However recently I ordered through a delivery app Panneer Butter Masala. I was so shocked to see brown pieces in my gravy instead of white paneer pieces. Ratio of Paneer to Brown colured stuff (which I assume is tofu) would be 1:10. I am so disappointed by this. I don't know if it was done in order to save money or other reasons. Whatever it is the customer should have been notified. What in case it is tofu and I was allergic to Soy? This is unacceptable and I will try to raise it to the right people. And I really doubt if I will ever go here again. (In the pic, right side is the Paneer and left is the brown stuff)

Food was good but service was not !! Food: Chat and starters are good. The main dishes like idli, dosa are very good as it’s their specialty. Desserts were not that great. The rasmalai was hard and too much saffron. The moong dal halwa was not really a halwa it was a like a kesari. Must try would be: idli, dosa varieties, chilli bajji , butter milk and filter coffee. Service: booking a table was quick easy even at the last minute. Initially the service was good , but when the restaurant is full, they struggle to manage things. They mix up orders and tables, slow service. Almost all the tables were served late by 45-60min, but the food was always served fresh and hot. I also noticed that they are listed in too many online ordering sites, so there were too many online orders at the same time and the people dining-in where kind of kept on hold. I find the food and service in The Hague branch better !! Price was reasonable for the quality and quantity they provide.
