Hi everyone,

Last Saterday we had dinner at Madras Diaries. Unfortunately for us we didn t like the food we had chosen.

The Restaurant is just next to Jumbo supermarkt( outside). Parking is available. The entourage is nice en cozy.

Things that can go better, We had to wait almost 45 minutes before we could order. The reason for this , according to my experience, the Restaurant was too crowd and only 1 person was taking the orders. The rest of the staff was more specialised in serving.

After 30 minutes the starters were served. Presentation was nice and the taste was average. It was not to spicy, but also not booming. Because of the waiting we asked them to serve the main dishes as soon as possible. We were afraid that we have to wait again for 40 minutes. Kids were hungry.

The main course ; Presentation was nice. But the taste, the biryani and the tandoor were to salty. We couldn 't eat this as we normal do.

The fish was nice covered in banana leaves. Unfortunately the taste was flawless, the marinade on top was ok, but taking that of the fish didn t had deep taste of the flavours.

Best of the dinner for us ; the Aloo Kulcha and dhaal makhani, one of the best we had.

Whole bowl of Biryani, almost untouched and Tandoor meat was over. The waiter asked several times , if we wish to take it away. That was kind of them. But no Thank you.

I dont believe we will visit the Madras Diaries for a second time. I hope that the chef will take my review as cosideration to taste the food.

Kind...

If Google allowed a negative rating, I would have selected that. Visited the Utrecht outlet after hearing rave reviews from friends.

Firstly, would love to know the hygiene levels in their kitchen, because everyone at the table got violent food poisoning. As someone who grew up eating street food in Mumbai, can you imagine how bad their food handling has to be for me to get terrible food poisoning?!?! Both my parents are from different parts of South India, so I grew up eating this cuisine. Was hoping for a nice reminder of home, but the food was mediocre at best. Balance of spices in the curries was off. Way too much pepper in the curry I ordered, which did not let any of the other spice flavours shine through, and sub-par chicken lollipops (the dish I was most looking forward to).

The service was absolutely terrible. I had to remind them for something as basic as cola 4 times and waited over 50 minutes for the dessert. Even after reminding them, it was not served and we left with none. They were nice enough to give us a complimentary dessert as takeaway after we refused to accept the one they were prepping for us for close to an hour. But after the food poisoning I would be barking mad to eat anything from there again.

Will certainly never be returning after this experience and would also never recommend it to anyone, Indian...

I had a pleasant experience dining at The Madras diaries, Utrecht today. I was welcomed with a crunchy “papadam & sauces” and a large list of food menu to make a choice. It was a tough choice to make but the service staff is very friendly and helped me by making a suggestion to try “Non-veg Tasting menu” after understanding that I would like to try different flavors that is offered by Madras diaries.

I was initially offered “Rose milk” as a drink as a part of the Tasting menu which I really loved and experienced the same taste that I used to get back at home(Tamil Nadu). Then I was offered the meal in a big heavy plate with a good amount of variety, which reminds me of eating a good full meal back at home during the festivals.

The appetizer and the curries offered in the tasting menu were really amazing and enjoyed try different flavors. The meat in the meal was soft and well cooked. The “garlic naan” served along with the meal was very soft, I would say it as one of the best garlic naan’s that I have had in the Netherlands. The biryani served along with the Tasting menu was very YUMMM!!!! The portion of the food was alot more than expected, but I managed to finish it!!!!

Overall the experience of dining in at The Madras diaries, Utrecht was really good!

Will be back for more biryani, Curries and...

The Madras Dairies in Utrecht is a delightful gem for anyone craving authentic South Indian cuisine. From the moment you step in, the cozy ambiance and the warm smiles of the staff make you feel right at home. The service is top-notch, with the friendly team going above and beyond to ensure you have a memorable dining experience. The menu offers a rich variety of traditional dishes that are both flavorful and beautifully presented. Their dosas are a must-try crispy, perfectly spiced, and paired with heavenly chutneys. The biryanis and curries are equally impressive, with a depth of flavor that speaks of genuine culinary expertise. Each dish is prepared with fresh ingredients, and the attention to detail is evident in every bite. For vegetarians, the options are plentiful and as delicious as their meat counterparts. Another huge perk is the convenience of free parking near the restaurant, making it accessible for both locals and visitors from outside Utrecht. This thoughtful addition adds to the overall ease of the experience. Whether you’re looking for a quiet dinner with family or a place to celebrate with friends, The Madras Dairies offers it all: delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service. It’s a restaurant you’ll want to revisit again and again!

A Culinary Journey at The Madras Diaries: A Taste of South India in Utrecht Having recently visited The Madras Diaries, a newly opened restaurant in Utrecht, I am delighted to share my experience. We started our meal with the Mysore Masala and Ghee Masala dosa, both of which were delightful and bursting with flavor. The crispy texture of the dosas combined with the aromatic fillings left us craving for more. Accompanied by refreshing drinks like the mango lassi and Fresh lime, our taste buds were thoroughly satisfied. While the presentation of the food was excellent, we were disappointed to learn that one of the dishes we had our hearts set on, the kadla curry with idiyappam, was unavailable. Nevertheless, the attentive staff promptly informed us and offered alternatives, ensuring our dining experience remained enjoyable. Overall, our experience at The Madras Diaries was memorable. The combination of delicious food, inviting ambiance, and attentive service makes it a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the flavors of South India in Utrecht. I look forward to returning soon to savor more of their delectable offerings and hoping to try the kadla curry with idiyappam next time!
