Toetje — Restaurant in Utrecht

A charming new dessert spot in the heart of Utrecht that’s sure to make your day sweeter! Even though Toetje specializes in desserts, their drink menu is surprisingly diverse, interesting, and delicious. We tried both the hot matcha latte and the cold matcha latte with strawberries, both were pretty good for not matcha-focused place.

Then came the cakes. Toetje’s signature dessert is something I’d describe as a cross between a muffin and a cheesecake — taking the best from both worlds: the rich cream cheese flavor of cheesecake and the fluffy, satisfying bite of a muffin. We tried the orange and chocolate versions, and loved them both.

At the moment, cakes are priced at €7.50 and matcha-based drinks at around €6. Yes, it’s pricier than average, but absolutely worth every cent.

This is my favorite cafe in Utrecht. It's small and cosy, they have amazing cutlery and the staff is super sweet! As a Dutch person, I can say that if you're looking for the 'gezellig' experience, this is it! The food is amazing and they have their famous homemade 'toetjes' (little pastries) in all sorts of flavours. It's located in the city centre, in front of the canal with lots of opportunities for people watching. You can easily stop by and treat yourself with a visit to this amazing cafe on a day out in Utrecht! Even though the prices are a little above average, I still come here a lot! I just visit whenever I can because I will never get enough of the homemade pastries and amazing drinks. Place is smaller than I thought. As a dessert and especially pudding lover, I thought this place is a must try, especially when checking out their Instagram page with their ‘homemade puddings’…. So I drove 40 miles on a Saturday morning, just to discover they only served cheesecake that day. There was no pudding that day. Just none. Nothing. No pudding!!!!! I just could not believe it. All that driving for nothing. I was so disappointed!!! The man behind the counter tried to call the pudding creators (I guess), but his call was never answered.
