Gasterij Koningswinkelhof — Restaurant in Valkenburg aan de Geul

We came across this restaurant purely by chance whilst out walking in the woods just behind. Our initial intention had been to head back into the town centre for the more obvious but less appealing tourist restaurants which Valkenburg is full of. However, something about the location, the aromas coming from the kitchen and the sounds of happy chatter from the guests made us head up the steps and enquire about a table. Initially we though we might be refused because it was a pretty busy Friday night but the host could not have been more accommodating and we were quickly seated on the terrace and presented with an excellent looking menu. As expected, the menu is in Dutch. We were helped by our neighbours at the next table with the translations. A Sole Meuniere was an easy choice for me as was Weiner Schnitzel for my wife both proceeded with a potato and garlic soup. We washed everything down with La Trappe beers which were the idea drink for the occasion. The service appeared to be a family run affair and was friendly, efficient and helpful. They really made us feel truly welcome. I'd love to head back here at some point and try more...

Everything was great, delicious and gluten free. The food was amazing! The service was also good and highly polite, open to help and with great empathy for the children. Absolutely delightful experience! The owner is very attentive to every single customer. The food is beyond delicious, the atmosphere is lovely, and it is personeel friendly. You feel very welcome and taken care of! What else do you need for an excellent experience? At the very last minute, the owner found out that we came to have a birthday dinner, and in no time, the dessert with the candle appeared on the table! Och that food....still...
