I held my 40th birthday party at Nomad on Friday night and the evening couldn't have gone better. I must admit I was a little nervous holding the event at a venue that hadn't been open for long and was a little outside the centre of town. However all my concerns were put to rest once myself and guests (a party of around 40 people) arrived.
We had the mezzanine floor for our party and it was a perfect ambience; a dimly lit private area high above the rest of the restaurant where you could observe the pizza kitchen, people watch, and listen to the live music below. The private upstairs bar is also a great addition which (fortunately/unfortunately) made it very easy to order that next drink!
The service was amazing. Before the event Amanda helped me organise the event down to the finest detail, and on the night everything was executed almost perfectly. The floor staff were very attentive, professional, and humorous; especially "Coco" who looked after us very well all night.
The live music downstairs was also great. It's something that Ragu (previous name of this venue) didn't have and I think it's a great addition to this modernised look and feel of Nomad. Live music adds a great vibe to a venue, especially for a function event.
The "icing on the cake" for me and my guests however was the food and beverages. With Amanda and the head chef I worked through selecting a menu ranging from carnivore and vegetarian canapés, tapas, pizzas, and cheeses for the party, and every single one of them was fantastic. The crowd favourite however was definitely the Chicken Quesadillas. Wow. The wine and beer selection is well curated and my guests seemed to have no problem sampling the various house options many times over.
The evening wasn't completely perfect, however any issues we did have with the night were minor and logistical only; to be expected considering it was probably the first, or one of the first, functions they have held in the restaurant since opening their doors a few months ago. The good by far outweighed the minor niggles.
All in all Nomad is a fantastic function venue with a great ambience, fantastic service, and food and wine to die for. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to others for a similar event.
Nomad is a welcome addition to Point Chevalier. I only hope the landlords of the Pt Chev. Arcade invest in an upgrade soon to bring the surrounding area up to the high standard they have set.
Thank you to Amanda and all the Nomad team for making my night a...
Read moreThis is a favourite of a friendship group I arrange dinners for, but not any more. I called in, in person Friday to change my booking from 8 to 3. I told the manager I was meeting my friends for drinks at 6 but keeping the 7pm booking. He then informed me I was the first table and would get 50% off dinner and drinks. AT NO TIME did he tell me to cancel my booking and book through the first table app, despite him telling me he did at the end of the night.
My friend ordered a cocktail, he came back to see how it was, and she told him it was watery (it never even smelt like it had alcohol in) then he said yeah we didn't have all the ingredients. To me this is something you don't say to your customer you just don't agree to make the drink.. He then offered to make her something else, which he proceeded to google how to make it, which I suppose isn't to bad. He just made it wrong and again it was watery. If you don't have all the ingredients DON'T say you will make it. At dinner I ordered a rum and zero coke, and it was foul, tasted watery. It turns out the syrup in the gun had run out and there was no more as a back up.
The 2 young waitresses were sweet, but it was clear to me they needed more training, and the bar manager definitely needs to attend a course in not only customer service, but also cocktail making lessons, as well as a management course. Rude and condescending does not make a good bar manager, nor a good representation of the bar/restaurant.
The food was lovely except my pan-fried snapper had 2 fish scales which wasn't very pleasant.Just not enough to make me want to go back to a venue that isn't very clean, & had many h&s issues. They are lucky it isn't America where people sue. As there is an unsafe mat near the bathroom, where someone could very well trip and break a bone.
Then on leaving he asked me to show him the app so we could get out discount, as I have not used first table before I wasn't aware I needed this. (he could have properly made sure I understood on the Friday when I changed my booking.)
When you spend the amount of money myself and my 2 friends spend I expected more than...
Read moreArrived at restaurant, 3 adults plus a hungry teenager. About 5 other tables seated when we got there, one on desert, one on entrees. It took 15 minutes to get to order drinks. We ordered food at the same time given how long it had taken to get drinks. We ordered 1 "cut of the day", one calamari and a Fatoush salad to share. The food took an hour. We enquired at about 45 mins and were told the kitchen was slammed ?!?! Certainly not from diners...Uber-eats ? Take aways ??? The steak was ordered rare, it was cooked medium. The calamari was aparently good, the salad was ordinary. The service was not great, we tried calling servers over multiple times, but it was as if they knew we were unhappy, and didn't want to deal with unhappy customers. We were asked how the meal was when we went up to pay, and they seemed totally surprised that we weren't happy with the evening. No manager was called when we explained that waiting for an hour was just not acceptable, and not dealing with the issue at the time is also not good customer service. We have eaten at Nomad many many times, but will not be going back, which is a shame. Life is too short for bad service and pretty average food at more than an average price. Incredible how hospitality that has struggled for 2 years isn't doing whatever is possible to ensure a great...
