⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Absolute Gem! Worth the Wait for Authentic Bliss.**
I visited Wangwang Pancake on Father's Day 2025, and despite the expected chaos, it was a fantastic experience that absolutely lived up to the hype. This place is a genuine treasure on Dominion Road.
Let's talk about the service first. Yes, it was incredibly busy—a testament to how popular this spot is—and yes, it did take a significant amount of time to get our food. However, this is where Wangwang shines in its fairness and communication. They have a brilliant system where orders are completed table-by-table. A simple glance at the order numbers on the board told us exactly how many tables were ahead of us. This transparency completely removes any frustration from the wait. You know you haven't been forgotten and that your turn is coming. The staff were hustling non-stop, managing a constant stream of both dine-in customers and a huge number of Hungry Panda delivery orders. They were efficient and focused, and we completely understood the pace given the special day.
The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a bustling, authentic eatery—it's vibrant, noisy, and not great. It's not a quiet, romantic fine-dining spot; it's a place where people come for seriously good food. The buzz of conversation, the sizzle from the kitchen, and the constant flow of delivery drivers create a lively and real environment. I also loved seeing the diverse mix of customers—from families celebrating Father's Day to groups of friends and, wonderfully, several Pākehā diners all enjoying the food. It’s a great sign of a place that transcends cultural boundaries and appeals to everyone who appreciates quality cuisine.
Now, the main event: the food. It was nothing short of excellent and met every expectation. We ordered a variety of their signature pancake rolls and they were worth every minute of the wait. The pastry was perfectly flaky and layered, achieving that incredible crunch without being greasy. The fillings were generous, flavourful, and fresh. Each bite was a perfect combination of texture and taste. It's clear that everything is made to order with care, which is why it takes time. This isn't fast food; it's fresh, authentic Chinese street food made with skill.
In summary, Wangwang Pancake is a must-visit. Manage your expectations: go knowing it might be busy and you'll need a little patience, but be assured that the system is fair and the payoff is immense. The food is spectacular, authentic, and worth every cent. I will absolutely be back, though maybe on a slightly less hectic day! Highly,...
Read moreCame here on a weekday for lunch with a friend, ordered 10pc pancakes, stir fried shredded eggplants potato and capsicum, and shredded pork in peking sauce. Pancakes and shredded pork was good, the shredded veges were mostly just potato with a bit of eggplant and capsicum which was dissapointing.
However the main complaint would be regarding the service. There was an older Asian man who gave our menus which we accepted with thanks. When he took our order, he spoke Mandarin to me which I can understand and speak however I mainly speak English to which I proceeded to order in. He takes our order then goes back into the kitchen and exclaims to the other staff what can only be translated into English as 'weird loner person'. I brush this off. A few other pair of customers arrive and I notice that he has been rude to them as well.
I dont come to Chinese restaurants expecting the best service but name calling is reaching and at the very least I can expect a quick short encounter then eat and then pay then get out. When we went to pay together he said nothing, rings up the meal, grunts in disgust, then walks off straight away. I paid and then thanked them for the meal before...

The pancake wraps are a bit glutinous so they won't break when you wrap them. They come in a set of 5 or 10. You can order a range of different dishes to use to wrap but you can also substitute the wraps for rice.
The Shredded Pork in Peking Sauce seems to be a popular choice there as well as the Sweet and Sour Pork which appears on almost every table. We also got the Stir Fry Pork Belly with Potatoes, the Eggs and Chives Pancake that, and the Shanghainese Smoked Fish. All dishes were tasty though a little oily.
The shop is small inside and gets very crowded at night thus becomes quite stuffy with little airflow. Customer and food service is fast and satisfactory but wait time could be a bit longer, especially during warmer months. Overall shop is...
