Me and some friends went to this place for a Birthday Dinner (as we heard the reviews were good for it and the restaurant was nearby) however we found the food to be rather unpleasant.
Shared: The sauce for the Chicken Wings and the Pork Ribs had way too much sugar in them, the sauce might as well have been pure sugar and 2 of the chicken wings cost 8 DOLLARS! So overpriced for such horrible tasting chicken wings, if they had less sugar It would've been much better and the Pork Ribs we got barely had any meat on it and faced the same issue as the Chicken Wings having a lot of sugar in the marinade/sauce it was coated in. The fries were probably the best dish on the menu for taste.
Mains: Lastly for the mains, I ordered Chicken Fried Rice as I rather enjoy the dish, however I was unpleasantly imposed with the unexpected sour taste of the Slightly Mushy Chicken Fried Rice, seriously, just why would you make the Chicken Fried Rice sour? It just doesn't make sense to me as it ruins the whole flavour and the meat just didn't taste fresh, with majority off my friends having similar complaints including the noodles being too mushy, or the meat having a bad aftertaste and texture. After eating a small part of the mains and realising the taste of it we decided not to eat anymore and just paid and left.
Service: When we were being served we had 2 women serve us who were both rather nice, however another woman randomly came up to us and said "Is everything going good?" with good intentions most likely, however she said this with the most 'I couldn't care less' attitude with the sentence being dragged out and combined with her high pitched and slightly shrieky voice it was a bit jarring to us after having the food.
Overall, the food is horrible, overpriced and the service was ok. The only aspect of this restaurant that was good was the atmosphere as the old theme with the designs everywhere on the menu and around the restaurant were rather nice, however this doesn't make up for the insane price and horribly made food. I simply do not get how this place got an overall 4.4 star review when there are so many aspects of the food to improve. Please try to...
Read moreI am impressed by the decor and the theme of the restaurant. They followed the detailed right down to the menu. However I feel as though the food standard did not match the effort they put into decorating it. The food I can understand it is an Asian or Thai fusion but having many authentic Thai food and living in Thailand before I have some expectations for fusion food and Asian food. The food here was not close to Thai flavours, the som tum was too sweet and not an once of chilly, I understand it their policy but som tum should have a character of salty, sour sweet, and some kick. The num tok nua was also sweet. originally we wouldn’t put vermiclli noodles in the num tok but I not sure about the sweetness of the dish and dry the beef combination. Lastly the yum moo krob I wasn’t sure of the cut of pork normally the dish would not be using those cut as there’s not a lot of meat and mostly fat so the flavor won’t be intense for the meat as it would be more flavorsome to boil or broth. Thus it is a salad type the sauce will take sometime for it to go into the meat overall the dish was not close to it name.Overall I’m not impressed with the quality as the method into cooking it for wasn’t half right thus the flavor was not close to Thai cooking. It was a messy combination. I feel as though I am objectified by my cultured through a white capitalist lens. I understand it is catered to the Europeans pallet but at least in my opinion it should be done half right to pay tribute to...
Read moreKiss Kiss is Dominion Road's modern, thai-fusion bombshell. It's renowned for the bright, vibrant, neon-pink, psychedelic graffiti vibes which make it stand out from literally all other eateries in Auckland, but I personally am overwhelmed by the volume of the music and pace of service that comes along with it. Sometimes I feel as if I am bothering the staff by wanting to order, and the busyness of it all means it's often a while before one is noticed and tended to. Nearly every time we come we have to seek attention and service from staff as opposed to the other way round.
However, it's a fun place to be in a crowd and a stimulating dinner location for a special, party occasion or before a night out! The food is quite delicious - the vegan options are so much appreciated and a real asset to Kiss Kiss. Noodles are tasty, sticky rice is sometimes a little hard but nonetheless delicious, and there is an extensive range of fun cocktails to go along with neon-coloured bug-filled candies. Classic kitschiness at its finest!
Overall, Kiss Kiss could be recommended for those looking for an exciting experience with tasty food, but perhaps not so much for those after a pleasant and relaxing dining experience (which I do admit is quite obvious by its vibrant aesthetic!). A cool blend of east and west, upmarket and cheap eats, and club...
