There's plenty of sushi restaurants in Whakatane central and you'd think the busiest were the best. While I can't speak for the others where people were lining up, I can say Mr Sushi was up with some of the better tasting Sushi I've tried. I really liked the way they dressed some of their sushi and the flavours were really good. The shop front might be a little dated, but sometimes, there's a gem within. We set next to the counter and without eavesdropping, we observed some of their exchanges with customers, it was...

We ordered the crispy pork shoyu ramen and the crispy chicken Don.

The ramen meal was underwhelming.. the ramen noodles were not the same as pictured but just 2minute noodles in a broth that had no flavour.... the crispy pork was not crispy as it was drowned in the broth... waste of $15.50

The don had raw eggs mixed in the chicken and their was not a good taste or look... couldn't even stomach the food and at $13.90 it was not worth it....
