Black & White Coffee — Restaurant in Christchurch

Being Christmas and the nature of bookings for large groups, I have taken some time to reflect and consider whether this review is fair. However, the more I consider the experience this morning, for our group of 11 people, the more frustrated I become and disappointed at how poor the service was.

Breakfast was ordered the day before in advance, with clear instructions so that the kitchen can prepare.

On arrival at 7am there was no one else present in the Cafe.

I cheked all the orders again, plus coffee orders. I confirmed we were OK to eat at 7.30am, advised no problem.

From our seats we could see that there was only one person in the kitchen, maybe there had been sickness, but no update was provided. The first meal came out approx 7.40am and it then became clear that each meal was being individually cooked and brought out once made. The gap between the first meal and last meal was 45 mins.

Meanwhile, coffee orders were also taking a very long time to arrive, with some not brought to the table until after 8am, while walk in customers were getting served immediately.

Not to mention the fact that on some meals specific instructions such as fully cooked egg were clearly requested and not prepared accordingly.

We were a big group and I fully expect these situations to be challenging, but this experience was poor, there was no apology for the wait times, no explanation for the delays, no consideration to the meals being brought out at different times and when paying the feedback was "yeh, yeh".

An apology would have gone a long way. Would not recommend to anybody, which is a shame as Black and White frnachises have been...

Sadly I don't go here anymore. I would regularly to grab lunch to take away but it became apparent that nothing was urgent and most of my half hour break was spent waiting for my lunch to be heated up, a quick task, one would think, that would be even faster when there were very few patrons in the cafe. I had the Egg Benedict. The portion and taste were exceptional. However, the service was extremely poor. It took ages for our food and drinks to arrive.

I requested chilli sauce, but the waitress completely forgot about it. I also asked for a fly spray to kill a few flies in the café, but they didn’t have any.
