Rose and Thistle — Restaurant in Christchurch

Came in for lunch and certainly wasn't disappointed. Their Generous servings of both the Eggs Benedict & the Mince on Toast was exactly what our hungry Tum's were asking for. The eggs Bene was Loaded with bacon and hollandaise sauce on sour dough bread & the mince was really tasty and went down well with a cold jug of beer. Lovely friendly staff. Decent price for a Yummo lunch out and nice atmosphere. Not stuffy or too warm, and then not dark cold and cramped neither. Really nice space and a great outdoor area with Pool there too now. Bonus. This is an older style community pub. It has a TAB, etc., and a restaurant. Appeared very clean and had friendly bar staff.

I didn't get a chance to get a meal as the chef had called in ill, and they are struggling for staff (as many places are), so I couldn't hold that against them. To their credit, the bar staff informed us immediately when we arrived that the chef was off.

They have a pub social club and appear well connected in the community. The pub caters to a mixed demographic. It's clearly a favourite with locals and a classic local pub, but probably not...

I ordered the Scotsman steak meal last night. It was $31. There were 3 gross bits of gristle quite big in size. The Vegies were mainly peas and the mash wasn’t nice. The meal arrived and the steak was a little more than warm. It wasn’t a nice experience. I told the owner when he came to collect plate. There was no apology I was told I could have a free drink.
