Bohemian Bakery Sumner — Restaurant in Christchurch

Went for a bike ride to sumner and dropped by to Bohemian bakery to try some pastry,as we saw all those pastry were kept in boxes without prices with them,paid $21 in total.Staff was nice thou. we bought an eclair,a cheesecake,a hazelnut tart.quite disappointed as bakery produced products,eclair was old and soggy,just filled with cream but not pastry cream,cheesecake I asked if it’s blueberry cheesecake and got a”yes” answer,but it’s just a very little raspberry in between the cheesecake and chocolate base layer,tasted not too fresh as well.Hazelnut tart was alright with chocolate ganache filling and maybe bit hazelnut praliné(?)under?not much other hazelnuts elements could find from this tart apart of two soft roasted hazelnut on top of some cream. Overall they meet as normal cafe standard but quite disappointed as products from a professional bakery.maybe bread and and other pastry products...

Don’t miss this place down in the main wee shopping area. It is a hole in the wall basically with the most incredible bakery and a small counter and wonderful staff. Where can I start eh? The coffee and drinks are wonderful and the breads and croissants are exceptional especially the seeded sour dough and then there is all sorts of delicious French pastries and cakes and then savoury goodies like amazingly different flavours of sausage rolls and pies. I can recommend the chicken and leek and mushroom pie and my husband loves the beef cheek one! Honestly you will not be disappointed here as you get quality products...

Disappointing, purchased the last 3 remaining pies was informed they were 1 pork belly pie, a vegan pie and vegan sausage roll. So was surprised to find chunks of chicken in the vegan pie, lucky we are not vegans. Also the 2 staff working did not appear get along. Which made the experience awkward, when one member is ordering the other around while serving someone else. And the staff member serving us was obviously not interested in follow her colleagues’ instructions leaving us with an incomplete order.
