One of our favourite beach spots. We love to come here in summer for a swim and in winter to watch the sunsets. There's always a happy dog to watch no matter what time of day or night we've been there. The beach changes so much over a day, and from day to day and season to season, so it's always got something to offer. Some days it's a gentle bay with lapping water and no waves, and others it's a raging surf beach with huge breakers. The low tide leaves a long sandy beach for building sandcastles, while at high tide you can sit on the stone steps and hang your feet in the water. Excellent accessibility to all but the sand and water itself for disabled people (getting to the water means navigating both a set of steps and the sand. It's ok if you're mobile enough to use the steps and handrail, but not so much for 'wheelies'). There are plenty of toilets in the park, and a couple of cold outdoor showers for rinsing off the sand after a swim. The kiddy pool, park, and playground make it an ideal place to bring a family, even if the sea is too much for the little ones. There are a couple of free public bbqs, but these get so much use on nice days that I've never had a chance to try them. We usually end up buying fish and chips and eating those on the beach instead, or going to Scarborough...
Read moreLovely beach, with pRt of it patrolled. Beautiful scenery. Cave Rock fascinated the grandkids who went throuhh it several times each, then had a swim between the flags, and a long play... drag me away... I want to stay! On the park playgroung, and the splashpad. Huge fun, excellant facilities, and lots of parking. Huge beCh, plenty of room to social distance, and reasonay safe. On holidays and fine weekends I suggest getting there early so that you don't have to sesrch for a car pzrk. Excellent wLking and cycling/ skating/ skating path all the way along the beaches. Fun and beautiful, and they have drinks and iceceam outlets... AND you can get coffee....
Read moreLovely long stretch of walk path beside the water. Many people also swim and surf there. They have a water playground for kids near the clocktower.
The place has lots of parking but it still gets full at times. Moreover, it is a good spot for picnic, swimming and enjoying the beautiful nature of Christchurch.
Try to climb up the road at the end of the beach and search for the flower path track to have a gorgeous view of the water...
