As I sat there this evening I wrote on a napkin our experience, times included
The young man behind the bar was the only lively thing the place had tonight, he was well mannered and listened to our compliant regarding the quality of the food being served. He served with a smile, and a positive attitude despite the disastrous environment he was working in
We watched tonight several tables complain about cold and poor quality food. One large table had been waiting almost an hour for their meals and a further hour for the other 1/2 of the table to receive their food
We arrived at 6pm, ordered shortly after. We ordered the Akaroa Salmon, Lamb shanks and vegetables, and one kids meal
We ordered 3 drinks, lemon lime and bitters, Coke Zero and a Fanta.
The Coke Zero was flat, the lemon lime and bitters served was L&P out of a can with syrup added
We sent these back at 6.43, drinks returned at 6.47
7.01 pm 2 of our meals arrived my meal arrived 8 minutes later.
All meals were cold Salmon was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were cold. The sauce for the salmon dish was good but cold.
Kids meal was perfect kids temperature.
The lamb shanks were rubbery with a thick layer of fat and cold, I was served one stick of courgette, 3 carrots and 2 pieces of broccoli.
No flavour to the red wine sauce, it looked and tasted like watered down pan juice from the meat
Both meals got sent back. One was returned and then my meal was sent away at 7.04 for microwaving and returned at 7.18 which was terrible, so a replacement was offered. 2 pieces of fish, a handful of chips and a miserable looking flavourless salad, arrived at 8.10
At 7.24 we noticed that after 40+ minutes of tables leaving that they were still yet to be cleared
We left at 8.20, we will not...
Read moreI visited salt on the pier monday this week. Ordered the veggie breakfast which was your average $20 and it was a pretty quick dish to make. The cafe was under half full and staff didnt appear very busy at the time. When ordering my food i found it difficult as the women at the front counted couldnt understand me and i had to spend ten minutes explaining i wanted to change an item on the dish but would pay the extra (this was an option on the menu). I then waited 40 minutes for my meal and when it arrived i was presented with a half empty plate. The 2 mushrooms (which were about the size of a $2 coin) and half a tomato were burnt and over cooked but also looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while and the rest of the food aka the bread and eggs were cold. This was the first time ive ever asked for my money back and refused to eat a meal. When asking for my refund the kitchen staff ( i asume the only chef as it took so long for my meal to be made) then appeared demanding i explain to him what was wrong. I then explained which he replied with "you cant over cook mushrooms", soon after he throw his tea towel whilst storming out and shouting at this front of house to give me my refund.
No apologie for the meal or for the service.
I had a terrible experience from the moment i was served but i never expected the attitude i was given from the kitchen. I would highly not recommend wasting your money here. I hope this helps with anyone making a decision on where to go...
