If you're looking for a truly unforgettable dining experience in Christchurch, I highly recommend checking out Salt on the Pier. From the moment you arrive, you'll be greeted by stunning ocean views and a chic, modern atmosphere that perfectly complements the restaurant's delicious cuisine. The menu at Salt on the Pier is diverse and offers a range of options for both meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. From fresh seafood dishes to hearty meat dishes and indulgent desserts, there's something to suit every taste and craving. Plus, the restaurant sources its ingredients locally and uses only the freshest, high-quality produce, so you know you're getting a truly authentic taste of New Zealand. But what really sets Salt on the Pier apart is the impeccable service. From the friendly and attentive waitstaff to the knowledgeable and passionate chefs, everyone at this restaurant is committed to making your dining experience unforgettable. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a delicious night out, Salt on the Pier is the perfect spot. Overall, I can't recommend Salt on the Pier highly enough. It's easily one of the best restaurants in Christchurch, offering a unique and memorable dining experience that you won't find anywhere else. So why not make a reservation today and see for yourself? You won't be disappointed!

Went in for lunch, ordered 2x kids meals (mini hot dogs and nuggets)which came with 2x mini hot dogs and 5 nuggets, 2x loaded wedges and a burger. The kids meals were smaller than what would be expected for kids size and came with a surprise side salad, which had some kind of dressing that leaked over the plate and onto the nuggets. Surprisingly the kids didn’t eat those. The chips were so over cooked that most of them were see through, the potato replaced with grease, totally inedible for toddlers. The burger patty was overcooked to the point it was charred black, dry and stiff as a board. The loaded wedges themselves could’ve been salvageable if it weren’t for the 2 intact pieces of flaccid streaky bacon slapped on top, stinking of old grease which seeped down into the wedges, tainting the entire dish. Everything was tainted with the taste and smell of old oil and grease. For food that is clearly been frozen at some point in the near past it was shockingly bad, never mind the price point which screamed “this food is so expensive it better be bloody delicious”. 10/10 would not recommend. Ever. To anyone. Pictures show the amount of chips left after the grease sticks had been removed.

Salt on the Pier in Christchurch offers a diverse menu with options like beef steak, lamb shank, salmon, spaghetti bolognese, and cheesecake. The beef steak was cooked to perfection, with a delightful medium-rare tenderness that satisfied our palates. The salmon was equally impressive, boasting a succulent texture and a flavorful seasoning that elevated the dish. However, we encountered an issue with the lamb shank, as it turned out to be disappointingly dry. Thankfully, the attentive staff promptly addressed our concern and replaced it. This demonstrates their commitment to ensuring a positive dining experience. The overall environment at Salt on the Pier is pleasant, providing a welcoming atmosphere that adds to the enjoyment of the meal. The service was commendable, with the staff being attentive and accommodating. To conclude, while the dry lamb shank was a hiccup in our experience, the excellent beef steak, flavorful salmon, and the attentive service compensate for it. Salt on the Pier remains a worthwhile dining destination in Christchurch, offering a variety of delicious options in a pleasant setting.

As I sat there this evening I wrote on a napkin our experience, times included

The young man behind the bar was the only lively thing the place had tonight, he was well mannered and listened to our compliant regarding the quality of the food being served. He served with a smile, and a positive attitude despite the disastrous environment he was working in

We watched tonight several tables complain about cold and poor quality food. One large table had been waiting almost an hour for their meals and a further hour for the other 1/2 of the table to receive their food

We arrived at 6pm, ordered shortly after. We ordered the Akaroa Salmon, Lamb shanks and vegetables, and one kids meal

We ordered 3 drinks, lemon lime and bitters, Coke Zero and a Fanta.

The Coke Zero was flat, the lemon lime and bitters served was L&P out of a can with syrup added

We sent these back at 6.43, drinks returned at 6.47

7.01 pm 2 of our meals arrived my meal arrived 8 minutes later.

All meals were cold Salmon was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were cold. The sauce for the salmon dish was good but cold.

Kids meal was perfect kids temperature.

The lamb shanks were rubbery with a thick layer of fat and cold, I was served one stick of courgette, 3 carrots and 2 pieces of broccoli.

No flavour to the red wine sauce, it looked and tasted like watered down pan juice from the meat

Both meals got sent back. One was returned and then my meal was sent away at 7.04 for microwaving and returned at 7.18 which was terrible, so a replacement was offered. 2 pieces of fish, a handful of chips and a miserable looking flavourless salad, arrived at 8.10

At 7.24 we noticed that after 40+ minutes of tables leaving that they were still yet to be cleared

We left at 8.20, we will not...

I visited salt on the pier monday this week. Ordered the veggie breakfast which was your average $20 and it was a pretty quick dish to make. The cafe was under half full and staff didnt appear very busy at the time. When ordering my food i found it difficult as the women at the front counted couldnt understand me and i had to spend ten minutes explaining i wanted to change an item on the dish but would pay the extra (this was an option on the menu). I then waited 40 minutes for my meal and when it arrived i was presented with a half empty plate. The 2 mushrooms (which were about the size of a $2 coin) and half a tomato were burnt and over cooked but also looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while and the rest of the food aka the bread and eggs were cold. This was the first time ive ever asked for my money back and refused to eat a meal. When asking for my refund the kitchen staff ( i asume the only chef as it took so long for my meal to be made) then appeared demanding i explain to him what was wrong. I then explained which he replied with "you cant over cook mushrooms", soon after he throw his tea towel whilst storming out and shouting at this front of house to give me my refund.

No apologie for the meal or for the service.

I had a terrible experience from the moment i was served but i never expected the attitude i was given from the kitchen. I would highly not recommend wasting your money here. I hope this helps with anyone making a decision on where to go...
