New Brighton Club — Restaurant in Christchurch

Unfortunately after receiving very positive/kind service as I used to go there for dinner after attending the He Puna Taimoana Hot Pools in New Brighton (Highly recommended). I was ordering and paying for a Hot Chocolate when I experienced the Barmaid being abusive to a guy who simply was wanting to order a drink. The Barmaid misunderstood what he said previously where my experience was that he was making a joke and we all laughed with him. So me being me, I defended him and was basically verbally abused by this barmaid, so I simply walked away as felt sorry for the guy and also felt sorry for her as she obviously was not having the best day. My experience of her in the past had been very pleasant and respectful, As I previously said, thinking she was having a bad day, simply listened to her abuse and actually felt sorry for her. Had finished my cup of Milo and asked to join a table with three men and happily joined playing Euchre. Was having a great time with them and had been told that this particular staff member had been sacked from her previous employment. When I needed to go to the bathroom, she decided to walk up to the guys and said watch out this lady is a bludger. I returned to the table to then be told this. Believe me I was furious that she had the audacity to even say such a thing. I then proceeded to the Bar and asked her if she has a problem with me. Her response was again abusive so I walked away and unfortunately told her that I was not surprised that she was sacked by her previous employer. Yes I admit I should not have said that but was feeling very frustrated at that time. She then came back to the table to abuse me again. At this stage I simply sat there not looking at her and continued playing cards. I asked the guys if the Manager was available but unfortunately she was not. Was informed to go over to one of the Committee Members to make the complaint. She advised me to call the Manager in the morning. So I then returned to the table only to be tapped on the shoulder by another staff member asking me to leave. I asked why and they said the Manager has been contacted and I was to leave but could ring her in the morning. So me being me I phoned her and informed her of my experience and she said that I was still band from going there. When I asked WHY???? she would not tell me. Well folks that was my experience of THE NEW BRIGHTON CLUB of which I will not be attending anymore. I am calling the Citizens Advice Bureau next week to follow up a call I made last week. Dress code discusting. Like other Clubs, no hats, hoodies, gumboots and workgear from 4pm. Committee should all wear Club shirts when ever on duty. The President should always be in uniform so visitors can approach him Draw no later than 630pm on Tuesday. This is the voice of so many regular members sadly. We want Club to survive but sadly not looking good as Sections having to find alternative venues ie Wine club, Bowls etc. Looking forward to so much more from new...

Bar service and staff were fantastic! The food and kitchen organisation was very poor. Orders took too long, too much food on the plates, and everything was very overcooked. There was something wrong with the bistro number system. One suggestion from our party would be that it would be nice to have everything upstairs to have a view of the beach.
