Our last experience here was really disappointing - what started out as a promising group booking turned into poor service and the shift manager giving us the overall impression that she didn’t want to deal with a group to begin with.
We have all eaten at Amigos Cromwell before, many for over several years now - normally decent atmosphere and tasty food! Taco Tuesday is a good deal, although often the tacos do come out cold - would rate the food higher if they were consistently served hot every time.
On this occasion, I had booked for a large group (15 pax) celebration. The original staff member I had dealt with was friendly on the phone, accommodating and promptly sent group menus straight after our call.
I chose not to book pre-set menus, as the minimum requirement was a 12 person commitment. It was a good option but not for the occasion we had planned. I pre-ordered entrées for everyone instead and emailed this through to the restaurant. On the day of my booking, I was called and told they didn’t have it. I found this strange as I’d definitely sent it through as it was in my sent emails. I had the impression they had not checked their emails properly, don’t really know.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we found our group had been spread across two sets of separated tables. This was unexpected, as it was not confirmed ahead of time by the restaurant. I realise at some venues it’s not possible to join tables, but they should explain this when someone is booking for a large group - if this is their preference. Because it’s definitely possible in that space to join tables. E.g. They could have joined their two larger group tables to accommodate ours and then moved their other - later - reservation to the large table in the corner, so that we could sit together and celebrate, as was intended. As it was not an option, we instead moved around our seats to talk to each other. Got rudely told by the manager multiple times that we had to move out of the way - she didn’t politely excuse herself. We figured she was having a bad night - it happens to everyone! Our group understands the nature of hospitality, most of us have worked in it.
Unfortunately, the service that night was also poor. Our booking was early and the restaurant was virtually empty. About 2-3 staff plus manager - not a case of being understaffed at that time. My friend ordered a drink - everyone was served theirs but this one was forgotten. No staff came back to check on us, they didn’t seem to care about their jobs. I asked one of them to check if the drink order had gone through and then also asked the manager for a glass of Prosecco. The response I got was abrupt - “I don’t think we have it”, rather than a normal offer to check if it was still in stock. She did go and check, they had it.
Our pre-ordered entrées came out on time. Everyone was happy with the food quality. However, nobody offered us sharing plates - Basic service at any restaurant. Again, our group took the initiative and went to get our own plates. Not good enough, especially for a pre-arranged group booking.
I have experienced way better service before from this site. I don’t know her name, but there’s one waitress in particular who always does an amazing job! Unfortunately she was not working that night.
The only food complaint was that the ribs were super dry, would not recommend.
It was a real shame to have been offered such great service in the lead up to our booking day, then to receive the completely underwhelming service and attitude from the shift manager the day of, on a quiet shift no less. She gave us the impression that she didn’t want to deal with a group booking - that we were an inconvenience. Put a real damper on our celebration dinner.
In terms of trying to organise a larger group booking with this site, I’d recommend you confirm all specific details ahead of time. We would like to think they have the ability to improve but would not recommend them if based purely on our most recent experience and service received that night - it sadly left a lot...
Read moreWell that was one of the quickest worst experiences at a restaurant I have ever had.... would never recommend or return.
Upon arriving we were told to sit anywhere, so we picked a table (none had reserve signs). 10 minutes later we were asked if we had a reservation. We did not and were promptly asked to leave because we “stole” someone’s table. We got up and asked if we could be seated at another table.
The proclaimed manager said nothing. Other than “you don’t have a reservation” although there were many tables open.
At this point my friend said that to the manager that there would have been a better way to handle the situation and the manager only said that she was the manager and that’s how she wants to handle it.
Two people in our party left so we asked for a table for 4 - again many tables were open inside. The manager looked around and said “you can sit outside”. It was cold and raining!!!
She clearly didn’t want our patronage and I hope the owners realize that she is costing them money with her...
Read moreI had a taco dinner at this restaurant with my friends. Everything was alright, nice service until we ordered our meals. We waited about hour and half just for a few tacos. The waitress didn't even bother to ask us during that time If we have everything or If we want to order more drinks. Nothing! We literally had no water like 45min. It was really hot evening. Then the tacos ''arrived''. It wasn't bad, but nothing special. It was wasted time for me that hour and half. When we finished our tacos....finally after hour and half the waitress asked us How was it, If we have everything and want to order more drinks. Like seriously? What a cheeky question, omg. If you don't have enough staff to handle full restaurant of people to give them good service and make them happy like you should as a restaurant, just don't have that restaurant or hire more staff, easy. I came as a hungry customer and I walked away...disappointed, angry, even more hungry after that waiting, unhappy and...
