Musashi Japanese Cuisine - Milford — Restaurant in Devonport-Takapuna

This is the first time we’ve ever left a negative review for a restaurant.

We made a reservation in advance through the website and arrived at the restaurant on time which was 12:15pm. There were four of us, and we ordered four meals, three beers, and a pot of green tea.

At first, everything seemed fine — the food came out very quickly, which we appreciated. However, about 30 minutes into the meal, the waitstaff started coming by frequently to clear our plates, giving us a subtle but uncomfortable feeling of being rushed.

Since we hadn’t finished our drinks (beer and tea), we stayed and continued chatting — which is perfectly normal. Then, around 1:10pm, a staff member came directly to our table and asked us to leave, saying that the next reservation was about to arrive.

We were shocked, as we had never been informed of any dining time limit, either when we made the booking or during our visit. Being asked to leave after just one hour — with our drinks still unfinished — made this a very disappointing...

On a sunny and busy Saturday I had lunch here to celebrate my girl friend's birthday. I had a cake and a bunch of flowers with me so the staff there asked me if it is a special occasion. I said it is my gf's birthday. Then we ordered some set menus, the food came out and they were delicious. While we were almost done with the food all the lights went off in the restaurant all of the sudden. Then, all restaurant staff members started singing happy birthday while they were bringing a plate of dessert with a lit candle. My girl was so surprised and happy of course, she ended up in tears. I know they may or may not be able to do the same for every customers but it was one amazing experience and memorable birthday celebration. We visited this place for a dinner to celebrate my father's birthday. The interior was clean and the ambiance was pleasant, but the meal itself was not particularly delicious. The prices were on the higher side while the portions were quite small. Despite it being a special occasion, we decided not to worry about the cost and ordered with an open mind. However, when we saw the bill, we were a bit surprised. I recall someone mentioning that the lunch menu had good value, but for dinner, it seems wise to consider the budget before ordering to avoid disappointment. The staff were friendly, although there was one staff member who struggled with communication to the extent that it was challenging to place an order. Perhaps a visit for lunch next time might offer a different perspective, but for now, I'm not particularly...
