I went for dinner at 1860 Greytown on Saturday 28 September....we had a 7pm booking and arrived a little early. The restaurant was quiet with only one small group at another table...the waitress sat is and provided menus and water. The food was over all very good. The people I was with both had the fish of the day. This was Kingfish served with seasonal vegetables and a foam. One of the pieces of kingfish was a little bit over cooked but still tasty. I ordered jalapeño poppers and salt and pepper fried squid as some sharing plates. Both of these dishes were tasty. For the main I had the pork schnitzel which was served with a warm potato salad. Both of these elements were well cooked and very tasty. I would recommend this dish. They served local Martinborough wines... For dessert the people with me had the vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce and the apple strudel with a custard and ice cream. Both were great dishes. The aroma from the strudel...
Read moreMy family and I were passing through Greytown on the way home to Wellington from a day out in Wairarapa when we found 1860 Restaurant/Top Pub yesterday afternoon. We had arrived about a half hour before the restaurant opens for service, but the [Irish] lady at the bar and kitchen staff were very accommodating and was more than happy to serve us.
The staff provided excellent service, and food was delicious. My children were given mid-winter christmas goodie bags and colouring sheets to keep them occupied as we waited for our food to arrive.
Probably the best steaks my wife and I have ever had in a long time.
