Warning! Avoid Room1, it’s infested with tiny ladybug 🐞 and they come out crawling at night! See photos. To management— pls take into consideration doing pest control! Went to stay at your hotel on 26/7 Sat as attended the grand finale Greytown Christmas festival and didn’t wanna drive back to Welly late night. The place was handy being walking distance and good value for last booking. I can tolerate a bit the noise coming from pub & aware upon booking so didn’t come as surprised- location of room is sort of exactly just above pub, so can clearly hear (though live band’s music was nice to listen) What Ive freaked out was finding 7crawling tiny ladybug on the ceiling (or there could be more which could be somewhere hiding). Take note, they do fly!! One I found crawling on my son’s blanket while he was asleep when I woke up to pee and check him, saw that tiny thing. Tried to ring the emergency contact but was already late night so hangup & just sent text as realised this is not sort of life threatening emergency and thought there’s no more available room we could move and nobody might assist us too late night with this case. Anyway Ive catch 5 of them but couldn’t reach the other two as quite high above ceiling and fear it might crawl somewhere i couldn’t see in bed. while its not dangerous, its the fear of having it crawl while you sleep on your ears! Was hard to fall asleep after that event. Would not recommend staying here unless it’s your last resort! They need to take into consideration doing a clean first, otherwise was supposed to be lovely night til those tiny insect came out crawling! Room was descent size for budget $100 cost but they could do better with even just a simple kettle replacement as well. Was wanting to heat water for warm drink but seen the jug very rusty on its inside. And oh, in the morning, before we were getting ready to get out the ladybug was flying around the light then landed by curtain, initially thought it was a fly but no,...
Read moreI normally try to only write reviews on places where I had a fantastic experience, but there's always an exception to the rule - The Top Pub is it...purely based on the fact I don't want anyone else to experience what we did.
The food and service here used to be great, but it seems to have gone down hill. We booked in advance (group of 13) but when we arrived, it seemed like we were a hassle from the get go.
There isn't much variety on the lunch menu (only three or four mains and two desserts), which surprised us, and when we asked if we could order starters we were told "yea just order the usual ones" when asked what they were, we were told "chips and garlic bread and stuff"...no more elaboration. When ordering a drink off the drinks menu, one person tried to order Export 33 and was told out of the six things on tap, only Tui was actually available. Then when we went to order dessert, we were told there were only a couple portions left of the sticky date, leaving ice cream as the only option (keeping in mind, nobody else was in the restaurant being served at this time).
Giving it a two star because the sticky date was delicious, and my Nan enjoyed her fish & chips (and it was her birthday so her opinion counts)....otherwise it would have been a one.
Wouldn't return...
Read moreWe met friends here for lunch as a great 1/2 way point from where we each live. Our friends had heard great things about this restaurant and they were right.||Great points: easy to park at as on edge of a very busy town. Attractive building with in bloom cherry trees and wisteria. Decor inside a refreshing mix of old and new making a great homely atmosphere. ||Greeted at the bar a laid back friendly bartender/ waitress. Great service throughout with no rushing or pushing. As it was so chilled we ended up with a three course lunch. Two great local wines and (yay) well presented and tasting plunger coffee. ||The menu was great with staples in each course offering. ||We shared appetisers; jalapeño cheese poppers, garlic bread, chips and squid… all great. The said in particular was fresh fresh and succulent. Bread was a beautiful cob. Chips were perfect as too the poppers - albeit too spicy for one of us! ||A burger and pulled pork and Jamaican fish tacos followed. All were great with Tacos beautifully rolled and sealed with bamboo stakes. ||Enjoyed ourselves so much had puddings… the choices didn’t disappoint with delicious Apple strudel and panacotta with berry compotes chosen. These were great as so often desserts are so often a disappointing afterthought. Not...
