Original Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Hamilton

Just went for dinner at this place and we were shocked to receive a bill of $110 (2 adults & 1 child) with some of the stuff charged at a ridiculous price??? In Auckland , we have been to a lot of Thai Restaurant and never see them charge anything for a small bowl of fresh chilli in fish source which is complimentary, first lot of rice comes free with main meal... but here all rice given were charged, they charged $3.50 for a small bowl of chilli in source, Glass of red $13.50....normally $8 or a bottle red wine costs arnd $10 to $15....in Auckland...😰. Very expensive food and drinks here, than in the Hotel we stayed in....we went in good faith to support this local business, but now we not going there anymore. Even food was not up to standard for value as in Auckland.!!! I know may be all restaurants are not the same, still some of the stuff charged were not fare compared to all other Thai Restaurant..??...

Visiting from out of town and what a real treat to find this fabulous restaurant! They’ve been here for 30+ years and I can tell why. I dined alone and felt very welcomed from the moment I stepped in. I ordered the coconut prawns and chicken tom kha. Both were very fresh and a great balance of flavours. I think the value was very very good! I was impressed with the generous portions. The tom kha soup was very creamy and not watery like other places I’ve been to. The prawns were perfectly cooked and I enjoyed the chilli sauce that came with them. I appreciated the calm atmosphere and the music was playing at a good level.

This is the best Thai meal I’ve had in the last several years and I’m sure I’ll be back next time I’m on Hamilton to try the rest of the menu.

Disappointing. I saw online they had coconut prawns and massamam curry so I was sold. Two stars for the tasty coconut prawns but that's it. The massamam was bland. A salty nothing, lacking any finesse. The waitress could see I wasn't enjoying it and asked if I would like spicier so I said yes. Out came another curry, not a massamam and again a disappointment. Bland and insipid. Turns out it was a green curry. I don't know what the chef is on, but neither curry dish deserve even one star. My walk back to the hotel only heightened the disappointment as I passed a dozen other restaurants that could have made my Hamilton dinner...
