Unfortunately.... this place has gone downhill since the new move to Victoria St.
We used to enjoy the experience here. I cannot believe what we paid for tonight.
The dining area was cold and not pleasant. The seating arrangements are unusual where there were about 5 or 6 staff milling around watching you while you attempt to relax.
The ribeye with the potatoe gratin used to be phenomenal, instead we got a steak that was undercooked, grisly and fatty with snippets of mushroom and tiny little soft potato gnocchi which was not nice at all. Why change the original menu? That simple pototoe gratin was what we loved with the ribeye and absolutely something we loved to buy, we didn't mind paying the price now that dish is just so underwhelming..
The pasta was just average no sauce and full of dill. Simple taste but with no substance..
There was a VERY LOUD group of about 20 or 30 drunk patrons that raced in jam packed into the same space as every other diner. It was so rude and obnoxious, why didn't you close those doors off so those drunks were separated instead of being so loud we couldn't even talk..
Could not hear the background music at all.
What used to be a 5 star establishment has now turned into a pub like atmosphere theres no longer any need for all the pretentious waitstaff and the ambience is missing and..really strange and poor food quality in comparison to when they were situated down...
Read moreWorth the visit I was unsure if we should squeeze in a lunch in palate before heading back to Auckland and I'm glad we did. We had the 3 course meal and it was really great. The ambiance was really cool how you have an open area with a bit of nature plus the interior of the restaurant has just the right class. The service was just right. We had the tuna and carpaccio for starters and they are both really good just all the texture playing in your mouth as it bursts with flavours. For mains I got the sirloin and my husband got the lamb the portion was just right very well cooked the sirloin is just so delicious O can still imagine it. The dessert we had the pineapple donut and chocolate mousse best of both worlds we really enjoyed how they are both different with each other but we're very very good. love it if ever we go back to Hamilton I will for sure come back for...
Read moreWe dropped by around 8:15pm on a Wednesday night and were greeted by a friendly staff member who took us to a table straight away. There was a private larger party on one side of the restaurant but that didn't impact the service at all. We were a group of 4, visiting from overseas and we had heard about Palate and it did not disappoint! The lamb was fantastic, a hearty portion with a diverse veg and sauce on the plates. We also ordered the venison tongue cheeks to try since we had heard this dish won an award, it was very smoky but also very tender. The raw oysters were delicious, the fish, and portabello mushrooms were all fabulous and flavourful. The overall ambience of the restaurant was lovely and peaceful too. Highly recommend this spot as the group really enjoyed all the unique flavours and...
