Spice & Soda Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Hibiscus and Bays

You know when you have a lazy day at home, and you just want to get some nice butter chicken to fill that craving? We had one of those days so we decided to give Spice & Soda a shot.

When we got there at 11:30AM the store was closed, lights off and tables were still stacked inside. This was quite confusing as even the hours listed in front of the door states that they should be open. We decided to hang around a bit and about 15 minutes later, someone eventually said that they will be open in about 10 minutes.

Finally, we sat inside and we were ready to get started.

Interior: The decor is a bit old in appearance and run down. The space is also a little bit tight but you can still move around without having to squeeze through other tables.

The service: We did not really see much staff, there was only one waiter who was running the front, taking orders and then going to the kitchen to help prepare the food. The staff member who served us was nice.

The food: We both ordered the Murgh Makani $9.99 lunch special, which is basically your butter chicken. The special comes with rice, naan bread and the curry itself which is a pretty good deal. All combinations were cooked well and tasted great.

Thought i would give this place a third chance as not had good experience with quality and taste before (hoping that previous episodes would have been “bad days”) - really shouldn’t have bothered. We arranged a delivery - driver had car trouble (which happens) and food arrived 40 minutes late but no customer service in letting us know there would be a delay and we had to chase them up. Food arrived cold. Naan bread was thin, lack lustre and looked and tasted like a piece of cardboard. Curry had very few pieces of meat in a very sweet sauce - someone must have tipped a bag of sugar into the meal - and had water collecting round the edge of my plate - ? Curry had been frozen then defrosted in the microwave before sending out. This unfortunately just reached what my expectations were on past experiences. Far better curries to be had...

I just wanted to send a little love your way! We had the yummiest family dinner with your vegan chana masala, vegan Dahl, and vegan aloo palak. The portions were generous, and the spices were perfect (we ordered hot but not Indian hot which made me laugh, it was just right) xx I couldn't get enough of that cumin loaded Dahl!
