Star Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Howick

We ordered some takeaway dishes to add to our spread for a New Years day lunch at our place. It was a complete rip-off, dodgy and low quality. When we went into the restaurant to order some roast pork belly, the lady refused to provide the price per kg, instead she said that the price was not based on per kg, but by portion size. So I asked how large a portion was, she again refused to provide a straight answer, but said it was $50 and would be enough. Again, the same response for the salt and pepper fried tofu. When we picked up the roast pork, it was less than 500g of roast pork for $50! You can buy 1kg of roast pork from Taiping for only $40 and it tastes significantly better than the rubbery pork we received from Star Seafood. And if you can believe, the tofu was even worse! For $35, we received only enough to fill two small Chinese rice bowls. It was too embarrassing to put out for our guests so we left the half filled foam takeaway container worth of tofu in the fridge. I would strongly suggest that anyone considering going here to rather go to the other more honest and much better tasting restaurants...

Few pros and cons

PROS: 1.Have been here for chineese new year party as one of our friend invited, the food is really yum , loved the deep fried beens, prawns, chicken , my frns n family have ordered pork n fish, I would say each n every food was delicious loved their chicken fried rice absolutely delicious / deep fried beans

CONS:

The main reason for a 4 star instead of 5 is , not happy with the owner of the restaurant coming to us n asking whether we are chineese or english with a akward face, that really dint please us, secondly the waitress had trouble understanding english, would say basic understanding should be still fine

The service is really late, waitress are really not civilized to be In a hospitality industry, they are always in a hurry, they don't even cross check with you whether they need to remove the plate from the table, they literally removed a plate of prawns n kept them in a plate of pork to adjust one more plate on table without even asking us, as few of us dont eat pork but eat prawns n we couldn't touch it later. I would say decency of asking...

horrible service my mom went out for a walk and needed to use the toilet went in to use their toilet and was yelled at belittled and humiliated in front of all the customers at the restaurant and kicked out for asking if she can use the toilet. saying it's for paying customers only we buy food from them every 3 to 4 times a week and never once used their toilet never again am i going to order food from then again spent over at least $5000-$10000 in the last 5 years order from them. could of taken my mom to the side and quietly talk to her instead of yelling in front of everyone to hear. very bad restaurant do go their if you want a rude experience congratz at yelling at 70 year old lady who spent over thousands of dollars just to...
