I will NOT be going back to this place. First time we tried it was a year or more ago with my son when we were ‘batching’ and it was very ordinary.
This is not within keeping with most other reviews, nonetheless is an accurate representation of my experience tonight, and is a shame as Southlanders like their toasts and do it well and you will have a good business.
Tonight I fancied a good old roast for Sunday dinner but we had been busy all day and it was too late to cook so my wife thought we could try takeaway roasts as a bit of a treat.
I chose the lamb - the serving was certainly generous but overall my meal was simply awful. I told my wife it was revolting, maybe overstating it, but it was most certainly awful.
The (rolled?) lamb was thinly cut and was very very dry like it had been under a heat lamp for a LONG time. The meat was sinewy and tough (and the dogs actually got most of it).
Of the vegetables 3 of the 4 roast potatoes I got were ok, the fourth was unable to be cut through it was so overcooked.
The pumpkin was nice, the parsnip was almost unidentifiable and looked so horrible I didn’t even try it, and the carrots watery and tasteless. The gravy was ‘jellyfish’ thin and cold.
Very disappointing, for roast ‘experts’.
1 average and 1 very poor experience from 2 visits. I won’t be trying my luck for a third time, although they do say...
Read moreAfter a long, stressful week I thought a nice roast meal with lashings of gravy would be top notch. We'd heard great things about here so thought we'd give it a go. Very dissatisfied. Me and my two boys had the roast lamb, and my husband had a chicken meal. My boys refused to eat anything (a waste of $24!) and I don't blame them - the meat was awful, the roasties were not crisp and beautiful although the other vegetables were passable. I only ate a little bit of the meat due to grissly bits and tough meat. Definitely needed more cooking for a rolled lamb roast as i'm assuming it was. Comparatively, my husband thought the chicken was ok, but hated and didn't eat his vegetables. Very unhappy after spending $72 - could have gone to a proper restaurant for little more and been much...
Read moreAn absolute all-round amazing experience. A warm, fresh, lovingly cooked roast dinner. Imagine a long, hard, cold day at work and at the end slinking into your Nan and Pops place for a hot and fresh meal while Top 40 radio of the early 2000's plays in the background. I honestly cannot fault it - the meat juicy and tender. The gravy plentiful and peppery. Roast potatoes that aren't dry and don't seem like they've been microwaved; instead pillowy and fresh like mash. The parsnip was so good it had me that thinking I need to buy it for my own dinners. I don't know if I could speak more highly of this wildly unassuming shop. I would eat here again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much...
