I have been to this Purrs & Beans and its former location Barista Cats many times over the last several years and always had good experiences. The snack food (cookies and ice creams) and drinks are good and they have vegan options (yay!).

The space is beautifully decorated and you can often find the resident cats in their favourite spots (I always find Banksy on the catio), and also includes a kitten room to allow people to meet kittens and cats whom are up for adoption, to ensure the kittens find the best homes for their personalities.

I have visited many cat cafes in NZ and overseas and Purrs & Beans is the best I have come across largely due to the devoted love the owners and staff have for the cats. There are rules in place to ensure the cats come first, which for any true animal lover is a must! These include introducing yourself to the cats slowly before petting them, not picking up the cats, and an age limit.

I have seen their age restrictions (10y+) been complained about but after seeing at other cat cafes, children rough-handling cats and parents and staff doing little to stop it, in the best interest of the cats the age restriction blanket rule at Purrs & Beans is completely justified and in the best interest of the resident cats.

The cats here are so loved and cared for, and even have seperate spaces the cats can go to get out of the spotlight to go to the bathroom or if they are feeling shy or just not up for cuddles.

Keep up the good work...

I have been visiting Purrs and Beans for about 4 years now, and it is my home away from home and my furr family. I adore the cats and cat slaves alike! Spending time with these beautiful kitties is wonderful cat therapy and so good for the soul! Come alone or come with others - it does not matter. They have Mewvie nights and Hobbies with Cats nights on some Fridays. They sell the cutest cat merchandise as part of their way for helping cover costs of caring for their permanent resident cats. They also foster kittens / cats and they adopt them out while following a strict process to ensure the cats are matched to the correct homes. Faith-Ashley, Shane and their team always put the cats needs first and take amazing care of them. The cafe also has a batista service with a variety of things to drink as well as basic things to eat like cookies, donuts, gluten free items, Macarons etc. Absolutely worthwhile Cat...

I really wanted to support this business, I love cats so much and was very excited to attend. One of our friends had a family emergency and I called purrs and beans and kindly asked it we could change the date of our booking but they said the notice was too late and went against their policy. I did not want a refund for my booking because I still wanted to support the business and go another time but the owner was incredibly rude to me on the phone and had to sympathy for our personal circumstances. I didn't feel valued as a customer, and didn't feel treated like a human which makes it seem like all they care about is money. In the end they were unable to change the date of my booking or refund my money so thats $54 (booking for 4 people) down the drain for an already struggling uni student. Extremely disappointing that the owner and manager were such nasty people but I'm sure the cats would...

🐾😻It's a lovely little set up. There is parking down the driveway, but also on the main road. They have really good coffee and some snacks and treats as well. You have to pay $15 to see and play with the cats for an hour. You have to also wait your turn if it's in the middle of a half hour. Alternatively you can go around the back of the building and catch glimpses of them for free. In summer time they will lay on the enclosed porch, and you'll probably get a better view 🐈😸 The cats are very relaxed and spoiled. They look well cared for, and get lots of love. Imagine spending your days lazily in front of the heater... There's also an adoption cattery, where people can meet and adopt some cats 🐾🐈 It's well worth a visit if you're a cat lover

One of the best cat cafes that I have ever been to. The cats are treated so well and are obviously highly cared for and loved. It’s a beautiful space, clean and spacious. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and make sure the cats are being properly cared for. Please make this cat cafe the one and only one you go to in Auckland! After having such a bad experience at the cat cafe in Mairangi Bay (cats didn’t have fresh water, the place was so dirty, cats were visibly sick, not enough cat beds or equipment), Purrs & Beans was such a nice experience. I’m a local to Birkenhead and have been here twice already and will definitely be back! P.s their cafe drinks are also very yummy!
