I parked on onetaunga road and walked down via the large sign on onetaunga road. it is a residential area on that road. there is no public parking. dogs are allowed. no toilets. the track that goes towards the 'beach'/kendalls bay, can be steep going downwards and sometimes narrow as well. est: 15mins. about 1/3 paved. it is dry. has a lookout bench. would not recommend for strollers or wheelchair access. I recommend to NOT take the 'swamp track'. I did this coming back from kendalls bay and the 1/3 of it is very step going upwards and only somewhat paved however, it is the only way towards a 'westland lookout' - if u r into that. the view is not amazing but not a bad scenic view either. going towards the swamp track from that particular lookout was a very made up, unpaved sort of track. it goes around the defence force's fenced area and there is nothing to see there as well, the supposed track follows the fenceline for about 10mins, over 2 very steep, unpaved inclines which could be quite dangerous if u have a low level of fitness. basically once u reach almost towards the end it goes right-ways (from here its pretty flat) and u keep following that for another 10mins until u get back to the original fork from the large sign. overall kind of not worth it unless u r a local just...
Read moreNot a bad spot however access can be quite narrow. If u r coming from the onehungta road way then highly suggest to go towards signs for beach/Kendalls bay. It goes downwards so a significant number of steps involved. Do not go the swamp track it is not the best, not flat and not paved at all, has bad inclines that r not suitable for every person. Kendall's bay is rather small though so not worth it if u r looking for a scenic view. What I did was take the signs for beach downwards towards Kendall's bay then decided to take the swamp track on my return however like I mentioned above the last half of the track is terrible. However from Kendall's bay towards the swamp track there is a Westland lookout which is not bad either however it is very steep as is only step paved halfway therefore not suitable for children elderly or if you have low fitness levels. No toilets....
Read moreThis is a very nice and unique park with a heritage area in it. The entry is via colonial road or rawene road. Dogs are allowed in this park. There is a decently maintained walkway which takes one around the chelsea bay and through the sugar factory parking. One can stop in the cafe in the sugar factory for a quick bite. The views of the Auckland city skyline are awesome and even better on a good day. Highly recommended for an hours walk and some time to be spent in the...
