We settled into our table of 4 and ordered drinks prior to ordering dinner. I opted for the classic Aperol Spritz, a refreshing drink to kick off the evening. Meanwhile, my husband and his cousin chose the on-tap beer.
With our drinks in hand, we turned our attention to the menu. Intrigued by the day's special, my husband and I decided on the snapper with a delectable Neapolitan sauce, accompanied by a crisp salad. My husband's cousin opted for the cannoli, while his wife ordered the Margherita pizza.
The snapper was presented before us, covered in the rich Neapolitan sauce, promised a symphony of flavors. The cannoli, a sweet pasta with a red sauce, showcased the culinary prowess of Abruzzo. The pizza, adorned with fresh tomatoes, abundance of fragrant basil, and gooey mozzarella, was a delightful sight.
We added the pizza crust bread with garlic and olive oil to our order—an afterthought that turned out to be a stroke of genius. The bread arrived, golden and aromatic, and each bite was a testament to the chef's skill. It didn't disappoint.
Surprisingly, dinner for four, which included three alcoholic beverages and a refreshing Pepsi, tallied just over $200.00 NZ dollars; which is around $119.00 USA dollars. A reasonable price for a culinary journey that left us satisfied and content. Also, I want to acknowledge our waiter, whose attentive and pleasant demeanor added a personal touch to the evening. Apologies for the lack of visual representation.
I wholeheartedly recommend Abruzzo Ristorante Italiano in the community of Birkentown which is a short drive from the Auckland...
Read moreFood wasn’t even as close to as good as the photos or general standard of Italian restaurant food. Maybe they’re under new management coz the 4.5 rating is a mystery! Both pizzas were super dry and very light on toppings (of the 16 pieces total, 3 had only sauce or only thin grating of cheese, and almost half had really sparse topping) The thin layer of sauce on the margarita pizza was dry to the touch! and the fungi pizza was just a little cheese and scattered thin mushroom on a thin crispy base which made the whole thing super dry and almost inedible 😬 The free garlic bread had hardly any topping at all - wasn’t the same style as the photo Salad was particularly disappointing - 90% of it was just mixed lettuce and the cucumber was just a sprinkling on top with 4 tomato wedges! Where’s the rest of the salad?! 🤷🏼♀️ Tiramisu - was really looking forward to this but instead I got two layers of sponge cake w cream in the middle and weak coffee soak on the bottom layer 😞 don’t think I’ve ever had something so far from traditional tiramisu 🤦🏼♀️ and it was a really teeny portion too 😒 (see photo which isn’t even close to theirs! I’ve added a teaspoon for scale) Would have given 2 stars but then I remembered we paid over $100 for this 😖 Food actually looks better in my pics than it did in person. Overall it was bad enough we didn’t even eat it all even though we’re...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted with the customer service offered by Abruzzo tonight. Ordered through menu log and when it was 20 minutes past the estimated delivery time rang the restaurant to check what was going on. I was told the pizza was ready and was sitting there waiting but no driver had come to collect. The restaurant put the onus on me to get in touch with menu log to see where the driver is as it wasn’t their responsibility as the restaurant- even though they signed up for delivery through this company. When I asked what would happen if the driver didn’t come was affirmed that the pizza would not be delivered. An hour after the pizza is ready and was supposed to be delivered we now have to go collect it. The pizza is now an hour old, not fresh and no apology from the restaurant. Absolutely disgusting for...
