We were in Wanganui for the weekend and had already dined where we were staying so for our second night we ventured across the road to a restaurant the locals didn't know too much about because it had only recently opened. Well let me tell the locals this - they should dine at High-Kut Bistro as soon as possible. Because the food is that good. Unfortunately our and many others romantic night was ruined by a table of trailer park trash celebrating a birthday party at the same time. I know they were trailer park trash because everytime a male from the group, either young or old, went the toilet, they had to tell everyone about it when they came back. And thats after all the belching and food throwing. I can only wish they weren't local and don't go to High-Kut Bistro often. Thanks team for a great meal, can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. Especially the toasted almonds bit.

Absolutely wonderful experience in this restaurant, from the minute we arrived we were greeted to in a friendly, kind manner. We were late bookers and they gave us a great table. The red wine we ordered a Gimlets Gravel was delicious. The starter of smoked beetroot and avocado was one of the best we have ever eaten. Scallops excellent too. We were given a little wait in-between courses which we love as our starters were a good portion. Mains were equally delightful, salmon risotto so much flavour and fresh spinach added lovely texture. My husband loved his rack of lamb. No room for pudding. Wish we lived nearby, such a wonderful place.

It's clearly one of the best restaurant we ate in the north island. The scallops we tasty. The butter bread with cheese - great but you'd want to give the extra cheese - too fat. the lamb and the steak were AWESOME but the quantity was quite small for 41- or 43 NZ$ price. The creme brûlée was grate and so the coffee. Many thanks to Grica who served us nicely

We decided to go here because the reviews looked good and the photos showed nice looking food but we were extremely disappointed. It was 12pm when we walked in and the place was empty but the town was busy! My partner ordered the egg flourtine which came out on stale white toast bread from the supermarket that just crumbled, it was drenched in sauce and the spinach was mixed in with lettuce. I ordered the bao buns and they were just as bad, drenched in sauce that was so overpowering. My daughter ordered the pancakes and she couldn’t even eat them, they were old and not fresh; the bacon was so under done that we wouldn’t allow her to eat it. We usually don’t give reviews but we highly recommend not to go to this place, it’s left us...

DISCRIMINATION ????...We were traveling to Wellington for a weekend away take 2 when we decided to stop in Whanganui for dinner. It was 7.00pm. When we got there we were greeted by a young girl who asked if we had a reservation. We told her we didn't, so she asked her female manager , she came back and told us that they were fully booked but we could have a seat outside on the pavement. While we were there we chatted with another couple that were also traveling south also looking for a place to eat, we told them they could join us at our table as we were told the they were fully booked. They came back and were seated inside. During the time we were there no other people...
