We normally do not leave much of the comments or review about a business. Because no matter what you say here, good or bad, poeple will have their own opinion about the place. But today we want show our great appreciation here, as Wendy (yes, my wife asked the owner's name, because she was very happy) and her husband did go extra mile for us, by made new batch of 凉皮 when the today's portion already sold out and that was near the end of the day. Samara has explained to Wendy we will fly back to Dunedin this afternoon and I really hope to take some 凉皮 back to Dunedin, then Wendy and her team agreed to went through all the trouble and made a new batch for us! As a Xi'an man lived in NZ for the last two decades, this food is part of my best memory and it taste very close to what I can have from my home town. So, this is not just a dinner for us, it's also bring happnies and comfort to us. Thank you Wendy and Kevin (sorry if we made mistake on names), keep up the good work and all the best to your business. Contact us if you ever come to South Island, we would love to show you...
Read moreI wish I could give this place negative stars. I normally don't leave reviews but I have to mention what happened yesterday. My husband and I ordered EGG AND CHIVE dumplings as we only eat Halal meat and are Muslim (we made the staff aware of this). When the dumplings were served to us we had one each and soon realised that it was not egg and chive. When my husband went back to the staff they tried to convince him it was vegetarian and sent him away. I went back to the staff and asked them what we had eaten and none of them could tell me (5 staff present and no one knew). Even the chef did not know. How can you not know what you are serving customers?! blows my mind. Later the staff called the manager who told us we ate PORK AND CHIVE. This is EXTREMELY disappointing as we are Muslim and have never consumed Pork in our life. The staff did not offer a refund either - we had to ask for one. The service was appalling. I would never eat here again. HOW DOES THE CHEF NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS...
Read moreI liked it...
I got the biang biang noodles with stewed pork.
Being more used to the Cantonese cuisine of southern China, I wasn't sure what to expect of this northern China cuisine.
I was pleasantly surprised and the constant flow of customers shows that others like it as well.
What I ended up with was a dry noodle dish with your choice of noodle type (dry in this case meaning not in soup, not dry as in spaghetti). The pork was shredded with seasonings mixed in. Also in the bowl was a dark mass which I took to be preserved vegetable.
Apparently the way to eat it is to mix the whole lot up as opposed to eating individual components.
It was pretty much what you'd expect of such a dish. I was pleased that I could order it non spicy.
Would I go back there again? Yes I would... But next time I think I'd like to try something different from their menu. Noodles & meat is a safe option for a first time visit but now I know what to expect, id like to try something a bit...
