Very tasty Malaysian food in a casual setting, and having brought other Malaysians here it is a solid choice when you want some authentic home cooked flavors!
For a group of six we ordered the chicken satays x2, oyster omelette, deep fried squid, roti panai, and one more. Mains we ordered Nasi Lemak, Hainanese Chicken, Beef Rendang, Panh Mee (?) the dried anchovies w chilli, noodles and poached egg, Assam Fish and one more. Medium heat for everything. Most of the flavors were great, especially for the rendang and satay.
I would've wanted more salt & pepper /garlic chilli on the Squid, and more flavor on the Hainan Chicken ( rice was super tasty perfect) but it did come with sauces. We demolished everything!! 5 entrees, 6 mains. Total $29/pp, not bad
It would have been helpful to have a no egg option, and there was difficulty explaining this to the waiter as one of our friends has a dairy allergy. We asked for egg on the side if possible but there was a fried egg on top of the Nasi Lemak and the noodle dish, which kinda ruled out her sharing those dishes with us. š In 2019 wait staff need to be trained for accomodating substitutions and queries like that.
On another occasion I had the Cham tea (Mixed Coffee & Tea w condensed milk) and banana fritter there, very nostalgic and cute.
I would definitely come back with friends, but be sure to communicate allergies better.
From the outside it can be easy to miss because its not very well lit, and can be on the darker side. Maybe more suitable for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you want to try authentic Malaysian cuisine, this is where you need to go! (Ps: Iām a Malaysian) We ordered Nasik Lemak, Chili Pan Mee, Char Kuey Tiaw and Roti Prata. I enjoyed Roti Prata the most! Itās very nice and even better than most of those I had in Malaysia. Char Kuew Tiaw was a bit dry and slightly on the salty side but still above average of what you usually found in New Zealand. Nasik Lemak and Chili Pan Mee are just tasty. š Huge portion, value for money.
Interior of the restaurant is very lovely with a little sweet touch here and there. They even provide reading glasses for those who need. (see picture)
Thereās only one chef to my knowledge, so be a bit patient if you visit during peak hour. We were here between 1-2pm lunch hour on a Saturday but the speed of service is still very fast.
Will visit again if Iām here in Napier again.
A little advice to the business owner; to make menu...
