K Kitchen and Bar — Restaurant in Napier

We stayed at the Masonic Art Deco Hotel over New Year 2024. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel - and I am making these comments so that you can get the food experience right for future guests, as they will naturally come to the K kitchen. We ate at the K Kitchen on New Years Eve, as we were going to the festival over the road. My husband sent his pizza back, as the thick dough base wasn’t fully cooked through. I had a chicken burger, which was fine. The next morning, we headed down for breakfast. The place was clearly very understaffed. And under prepared. We watched 3 couples sit down, only to walk out, as their order was not taken, after waiting for some time. The waiter was putting the wooden boxes on the tables, and setting them up - rather than anyone serving coffee. If we had been served a coffee we would then have waited happily for food. We had to ask for our coffee 30 minutes after our arrival. While the website and menu mentions fine dining, the food we were served was anything but. If you are English, you know what a good snorker is ( sausage). My husband was eventually served a second rate breakfast containing a pale low quality Frankfurter type sausage - not fine dining at all. The restaurant has nice decor, well done with character. The colour scheme is good. The setting is amazing. The food is nowhere near the descriptions on the website. Why don’t you say it is average burgers and stuff - that would be more representative. Having now travelled in New Zealand for a few more days, I can assure you that some simple cafes offer better quality food/breakfasts and service than we received. Baring in mind, we visited on new years morning. Went for breakfast, they were understaffed. Ordered "big breakfast", the bacon eggs Benedict with breakfast sausages and hash brown and 2 mochachinos. Very long time to be served water, then our coffies and then our food. We received our food and others who had arrived at the same time and ordered at the same time, still didn't have their coffee, wasn't until we almost finished eating that they got their coffee. For a "big breakfast", the portion was very small and the ingredients very low quality eg, the "breakfast sausages" were just small pre cooked sausages, nothing else looked or tasted cafe quality. Went to pay, $90! They rang up $73 first before canceling and going to $90. I assume this was an extra fee being new years day but we weren't told about it at any...

For starters we got Chicken bao tacos, 10/10 was very delicious, soft and creamy will definitely get again! Soup of the day (Chicken) 10/10 very nice

Mains we got Fish and chips 8/10 Fish was very tasty! Confit scotch steak 10/10 was very delicious, Potato mash was super creamy, Steak was perfectly cooked to my liking. Medium to well done.

Dessert we got Lemon vanilla tart, 10/10!!! Was the most delicious dessert I have ever tasted! It was so creamy and delicious! One of those desserts that you can still taste in your mouth when you leave! Was definitely my favourite meal of the night! Close with all the rest.

Service was just lovely so polite and fast service.

10/10 for the atmosphere was so well presented! Clean tidy...
