I had the WORST restaurant experience of my entire life. Actually, I was injured and if I wasn't so bizarre, it would be funny. This was my first time for my husband and I to Nelson. (My father's family are from the area). The motel owner recommended Parts & Service among others, so after walking around town looking at menus, we saw this restaurant was busy and looked nice, lovely menu etc so went in. The waitress took us to the end of the restaurant and then told us that this was the only table available and it was a problem' table. I thought she meant it was because it was right next to the toilet ... The husband was starving, so I thought it would be okay ...(The couple in the table adjacent to us said Don't sit there, it's terrible'.). I thought, how bad could it be? Little did I know ... So it turned out it wasn't the endless stream of diners wanting to use the toilet that was the `problem', it was that a strange air pressure thing that was going on, as soon as the door opened, it was like the feeling of being sucked between two doors where the air got sucked out of one and then a huge jet of air pushed out the other side. Unfortunately this table, the one closest to the toilet door, got the full blast of this incredible force of wind that my right ear started to ache. I became quite visibly agitated and upset, almost disoriented. I couldn't eat my dinner and had to sit, desperately waiting for my husband to finish his. After 25 whacks to my right ear of doors opening and closing (picture doing 25 landings in a plane, that kind of weird, horrible air pressure feeling), I couldn't wait to escape. The man in the table across from us was finishing up and I asked our lovely, but extremely busy waiter if we could move to it. He said he would check. No he said. The Manager says that table is booked with an online customer. I then asked the Manager as we were leaving, how could you give that table to people and she admitted they don't give this table to the online people, only to walk-ins! Really! Well, I'm certainly not surprised. It would be quite the shock if you had been looking forward to a dinner and found you in this horrible, miserable predicament. I actually wanted to cry when I left I was so upset and my ear now beginning to throb. It turned out quite by coincidence that I had my two year hearing test coming up a few days later so I decided to wait to see what the audiologist thought. I said the only way I could describe it was that my ear drum felt bruised and I now had partial hearing after this horrendous dinner. She said she wouldn't touch my ear at all and I was immediately to go to the doctor. She said what I have is what people get when they go to loud rock concerts, the repeated loud vibration causes the middle ear to try and protect itself and it becomes erratic. The doctor ran some tests and is sending me to an ENT Specialist because he is concerned. Three weeks on I still have not regained my full hearing in my right ear. It was such a horrible and completely unavoidable thing to happen. I told the manager that the table should be removed. I even sent a message through the restaurant's contact page very soon after, and they didn't bother to reply. So the good news is that if you book online, you won't get this dreadful, potential injury inducing nightmare of a table. But if you are a walk-in. BEWARE. Perhaps some of you have already experienced it already. A shocking, horrible and dreadful experience. I even had to give it one star to write this review. NO STARS FROM...
Read moreParts & Service is quite possibly the best dining experience we have ever encountered. The entire evening was utterly sublime. I just wish I could give it higher than 5 stars as we were left entirely speechless at what was prepared for us.
We arrived at our table with the most sincere of greetings. We really wanted to do a Trust the Chef / Leave it to us. Our request for an entirely vegan option (one in our party was Vegan) was rather out of the ordinary. Though in doing so, the kitchen accepted this request and the magic of the night was truly unveiled as we shared the delight and anticipation of the waiting staff and the chef as each dish was made purely ad-hoc and in an experimental fashion. At one point, we heard that someone in the kitchen had ran to another restaurant to get hold of some Tofu for us specially. We were left in suspense at what the next plate was to be; filling the entire evening with fascination which made it a tantalising experience. We were so pleased to learn that we spent in excess of 4 hours at this restaurant which was a result of the experience and atmosphere of the night being truly sensational.
We were so humbled that we, as customers, received a handshake from the front of house staff and we were ever so pleased we got an opportunity to meet Jasper, the chef who had prepared the most outstanding of vegan dishes and dessert for Trust the Chef / Leave it to us menu. To also note, the Josper Barbeque is a wonderful piece of equipment which elevated the flavour of every plate we enjoyed.
Sincerely, the skill, care and dedication from everyone involved that evening (28 Oct 21) has left us struggling to comprehend a time we could compare this level of ingenuity, craft and delight.
We thank you for leaving us with a lifetime memory. We would be thrilled to come here again when we next...
Read moreI was very excited to go to parts and services as I had not been there before, sadly I did not have the best experience, the food was the biggest let down, the pork belly was hidden under leaves and the nam jim sauce was not as sharp as I was hoping for, I think a steak with three onion rings a jus is over priced at $26.00 then a side of roast crown pumpkin (very oily) at $8.00 is over the top.... My wife is vego and had the potato pancake, flavour was not jumping out at her and the texture was strange.... Service was fine but a little mix up as to a premade booking, the wine list was great and the lychee fizz was very nice. We did not stay for dessert we called into another restaurant for that. I personally think the tables are to close as you are hearing the whole conversation from the people sitting next to you and on the table on the other side was a lady that went outside for a smoke...... That's all I could smell when she come back to her table...... Very close tables. Would I return...... I don't know as there are other great restaurants...
