Spagalimis Pizzeria — Restaurant in Nelson

We ordered delivery from Spagalimis Pizzeria in Nelson last night and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. I had the New Yorker pizza with a side of Spags Chips, and my husband ordered the Capricciosa pizza with a side of chicken tenders.

Both pizzas were disappointing — the base was thin and overly greasy, the marinara sauce was extremely watered down and lacked flavour, and the cheese was overcooked to the point of being hard. The “world famous” Spags Chips turned out to be just ordinary chips served with that same watered-down marinara on the side, which didn’t add much.

Surprisingly, the best part of the meal was the chicken tenders — they were the only item we genuinely enjoyed.

Despite the food quality, I’ve given the restaurant three stars because their menu does feature some appealing pasta dishes which I hope are better than the pizzas, and the delivery was impressively fast, arriving 30 minutes earlier...

I truly don’t do reviews often, if ever. But I truly could not stand by and give no evidence of how poor this pizza was. I was very excited on a Friday night to be grabbing a pizza and heading home. My wife and I both love pizza a lot. And we’ve tried everything in Nelson, and most pizza is half decent. And even Domino's and Pizza Hut for the price are fine . And this, by far, for the price we paid, was 0/5 stars. We ordered the New York pizza large and the meatball pizza medium. And I mean, the pictures don’t lie. Look at those two pizzas, and that’s all I have to say. Those two pizzas were 47 dollars. We did not order drinks or sides. This was a takeaway for home. This was the most average, salty, poor-toppings pizza we had for the price they charged. I really do get excited when new restaurants appear, especially pizza ones. I came to pick up an Uber Eats order today (20-08-2025) around 7 PM. The order was one pizza and mac and cheese. The order was not ready until 7:45. One of the staff members updated me at that time that they had started to make it. Five minutes later, the person who was in charge in the kitchen came to me and asked me to cancel the order due to trouble with the oven and that it was going to take a long time.
