The Vic Public House — Restaurant in Nelson

Well we went there twice, firstly for drinks , which found to be reasonably priced with friendly staff and nice surroundings. Second time we went on a Sunday, one before Anzac day, the place was reasonably busy but still a couple of bigger tables available. On approaching the bar an extremely frazzled barman slightly panicky suggested he advise what was left on the menu as they had been "smashed". Out of steak, chicken , burgers, pizzas, salad.... well there wasn't much left on the menu to warrant staying. They did their best to get us to stay and were very sorry but there was nothing to eat unless you wanted chips. In my opinion the chef needs a rocket to be that short of product even if they have been "smashed" , especially with a holiday the next day. Of course the chef may have had reasons beyond his control like his budget or management but really running out of this many things shouldn't happen. They suggested another place to go to...........well that's another story. Nelson get you're hospitality...

I absolutely hate leaving bad reviews but this has to be done. First of all our order done at table didn't reach the bar i had to after 15 mintues ask for our drinks...not a big issue..but then 1 of our meals came out was fish an chip meal $30 chips were cold fish was so soggy in parts burnt in others an dripping in oil. Did bring this to waiters attention and she did talk it out the back offered pudding in replacement 🤔 then had to re order all our other meals as they never went through with first order.... fish bites came out waiter said let me know how these are same as other order of fish another dish uneaten waiter said ill see what i can do went out back had chef then giving up dirty looks nothing was done!!! Update: 4 stars to 3... Another typical dine in, somewhat a quiet day. Fried chicken was soggy and average flavour - assuming it was an attempt at Kung Pao chicken. Same with the fish of the day, soggy. The salad that went with the fish had green greens (dark green leaves which are typically more bitter), which is not a nice taste for us at all. All In all... it's still a good pub for a brew if you don't mind the price, but the competition out there wins on that note, we may come back again to see whats new next year.
