The drinks are nice, but the staff are not.
I went for a drink after work with a small group of colleagues. I was excited because I had heard such good things about this place.
There was an impressive selection on offer, and I was a little overwhelmed with the choices, so I asked the bartender for her recommendation- I didn't think this was an unreasonable request, as there was no one else waiting to be served, and the place was fairly quiet. After staring at me with displeasure for an uncomfortable few moments, she finally replied with "people like this one... this one is made in New Zealand...". I am not sure if she just lacked product knowledge, or if she was intentionally trying to be rude- but I tried not to let her poor customer service put a damper on my experience, and I went with one of her options. And I must say it was really good.
My workmates chose a spot outside to enjoy their beverages, but were told by a staff member that they were sitting in the wrong area. He pointed them toward the bar fronts and they moved to an arrangement of tables. However, after a short period of time, we were approached by a different staff member who told us we were not allowed to sit there either. We politely explained that we had been asked to move already, but she replied with "I don't make the rules" and left. A third staff member then came out to make sure we were leaving, and said it came down to branding and licensing- and that we were only allowed to drink specific drinks in specific areas. Confused, we asked what would happen if some of us ordered drinks from her brand also. To which we were told, the rest of us would still have to move into the other area to consume our original purchases. Needless to say, we didn't stay for round two.
I can understand that different brands are operating under the Brewtown umbrella, but the rules make for a disjointed experience. I also feel that the message could have been delivered in a more helpful way by the staff. We weren't made to feel welcome or valued as customers.
The drink was nice, but the experience left a bad taste...

Read moreFrom an old Dunlop Tyre Factory saying back to 1949 and into 2006 that accommodated around 400 employees at once, it's amazing to see the number of businesses booming in what has come to be known as BREWTOWN UPPPER HUTT!
Upon arrival, my wife and I visited The Witching Hour Mini Golf; which had an amazing theme throughout and perfectly timed BOO's!!!! for the unsuspecting visitor! VERY NEAT AND WELL MAINTAINED! Are a good game of competitive mini golf (my wife beat me 💪) we popped through to TE ARO. The food here was great! Angus Beef Cheese Burger and Coke topped off the day!
HEADS UP: It was a bit difficult to distinguish who the employees were if they weren't either in the BOH area frequenting the FOH or behind the bar as there doesn't seem to be a uniform (even a consistent dress code, say same tshirt with company prints and a cap with black or blue jeans). Also, we arrived and there wasn't anyone at the FOH welcoming you. We guessed to head to the bar where you actually place your drink and food orders. So just some minor things that could prevent foot traffic from heading in the other direction to the already packed competitors next door (who too had no one welcoming customers 🤔)... Pattern much?
Nonetheless, it was great so well done TE ARO! Great food (5stars), good vibe (3.5^4stars)! Looking forward to...
