Truly the worst night’s sleep I’ve had and I’ve slept in collapsed tents at muddy raining festivals! If it’s not the noise of the pub and other local bars or depot it’s the AC unit or other tapping. The room is either too hot (even with the windows open) or too cold (with the fan on). No tv in the room. Upon arrival the staff didn’t explain how the keys worked, where my room was. When I asked about food they said the kitchen had closed early and the bar would also be shutting soon (it transpired the bar closed an hour later, despite being earlier than advertised) and any questions to the staff were met with frightened rabbit expressions. There weren’t any obvious tea or coffee making facilities, no complimentary toiletries provided (other than the ones dumped in the men’s communal shower left by previous guests). The bedroom also looked like a wild animal had been let loose in there and the beds were so uncomfortable. Surprised bedding and towels were provided. I stayed here considering it had recent good reviews and I rarely leave negative reviews but this place was a shambles. When I went out for food (I was told a takeaway would have to do) I found lots of local bars still open and serving so went there and then couldn’t initially get back in. Another guest just happened to be returning at the same time as me and said that the code for the door was on my keys (again, not explained to me). We both enquired if we could have a night cap as we were guests, again frightened rabbit expressions from the two staff and they said they’d closer to the last customers 30 minutes ago. Ironically I’d have given the place more money if I wasn’t told the bar was shutting and would have probably got a takeout if that was the case. Seriously, avoid this place. Needs serious retraining and revamping. Don’t let it ruin your trip or visit...
Read moreI gave this venue only one star two weeks ago however I need to review that given the response of the owner and staff, who when we went to quiz last week, were very apologetic for the experience I/we had had. Not only did they apologise for what we experienced but they offered us a complementary drink and a free meal this week as we had already eaten before attending quiz last week. The response was definitely unexpected and was very much appreciated by us all. Thank you. Also I must say a big thumbs up for the new technology format for quiz.
Went to the H&J for quiz night - as a team we decided that we would support them by eating there given that lock down has been tough on businesses. I had to send my mussels back as several of them were not open, two of my friends found their respective meals disappointing and were offered complementary desserts. An apology was offered [thank you] I suggested that another option would be good from there on the service was close to non-existant and what there was was extremely perfunctory. I asked for another beer which didn't turn up. So all in all I would have to say Great Quiz Night, abysmal customer service and having had a career in hospitality I know what good service looks and feels like. Tonight was not it. Our group has decided that we will do quiz and have a drink but we will not eat at the H&J again. Sadly the overall experience means I could not recommend eating here but do go and enjoy the quiz Matt and...

He stated they had a burst pipe he did not address the ossue of mold in the disabled bathroom and the leaking toilet no matter how many times i brought it up and said the sheets are washed daily...even if they are washed daily they are still stained...i was asked to provide a contact for the owners to contact me regarding a refund and have heard nothing..shocker. again i would strongly urger to spend your money elsewhere this place is a joke.
This is the most disgusting place we have stayed...for $123.00 a night you can expect to be walking into a room with stained sheets, dirty floors, humid and hot. Then you get to the shared bathroom situation where the water barely comes out of the shower head...shared toilets then getting closed for the floor and having access to a disabled bathroom with mould over the walls and ceiling and a toilet that leaks everything you flush and no one around to even talk to about this as well as at checkin being told the cleaner has your keys and may or may not be ready for you so go and find him to collect your keys. Honestly the night prior we got access to the matamatta pool for showers much Nicer facilities friendly staff and slept at the freedom camping near Mattamata I-site and that was a much more pleasant experience. After seeing the state of Horse and jockey inn I wouldn't even risk eating...
