Unfortunately, this is the worst customer experience of any Cafe I've had for a long time. Being Robert Harris, I was disgusted. We were there at around 12:15 pm today. The lady behind the counter kept interrupting me while I was trying to explain the order, she also kept talking to others, then going off to finish another order, before coming back to "TRY" and get ours right. She was generally rude, abrupt, unhelpful, and too rushed. When I got my coffee it was completely wrong. After getting someone else to check the till receipt, another lady brought the correct coffee and admitted they'd got it wrong. Over the 15 minutes we were there, there were tables that were not cleared. A breach of Health and Safety I'm sure. The attached pics highlight it. ANOTHER major was the amount of flies around tables, customers, and the food - be it at customers tables, or tables that hadn't been cleared. This experience can only be described as disgusting. It was obvious Robert Harris, Matamata was understaffed. They appeared not to take pride in their service, or customer experience. If this is the latest standard of Robert Harris Matamata, I think it appalling. Not the standard I'd expect from Robert Harris. I'm sure the owners of Robert Harris NZ will be shocked to learn of this. Would I recommend Robert Harris, Matamata. Definitely NO.. Will I go back? - I may, purely because I travel to Auckland often, and it's handy. However, I'll check other cafes, given we have choices in life. NOT a pleasant experience.

Severely disappointed for having breakfast here... I usually don't trust just any old joint to make poached eggs, as I have had too many raw eggs, or eggs tasting like vinegar. So,to play it safe, I asked for scrambled eggs on my sourdough, with a side of bacon... this is the first time I witnessed scrambled eggs being massacred. I'm not even sure how you would be able to do this? Didn't appreciate margarine on my sourdough, and the dirtiness of the surface they prepared the bacon on was not appetizing at all. Black dirt all over the bacon. To top it, my friend who ordered a poached egg - yes, RAW inside. Not runny, raw white and yolk. Not worth it at all, and I don't think I'll ever eat at a Robert Harris again.

Standard cafe situation for NZ. Decent coffee and chillers with extra whipped cream. Convenient location across from the Lord of the Rings visitor centre so it’s great to people watch and soak up the sights. Staff were friendly but when we asked for a coffee to-go and one chiller for here they delivered all to have at the cafe. Minor inconvenience staff were friendly regardless must have been a miscommunication. Cabinet food were fresh looking and decent proportion.

We went to Robert Harris in Matamata for lunch. Our first trip from Auckland to Matamata. Ordered chicken burger which was $24 so assumed it was going to be a decent burger with real chicken. My burger came out when my other two friends had already finished their meals. And then I was disappointed to see it was a chicken petty burger, like you get at McDonalds. If chicken petty is what you want to sell at Robert Harris, then why is it $24? Use real chicken if you want to charge premium price for a burger. If I knew this is how the burger would be made I would have just gone to KFC down the road and ordered a real chicken burger. My friend ordered corn fritters and that was $24 aswell. She was disappointed to see that it wasn't even a real freshly made corn fritter and for that price she got 2 frozen corn fritter petties fried up. Same as the frozen chicken petty fried up. Stop charging $24 for meals with frozen petties. If I pay $24 for a burger in Auckland, it will have real chicken. One of my friend goes to Robert Harris in Auckland regularly and she said Auckland menu is far superior and was disappointed to see Matamata Robert Harris selling lower quality meals but for high price. The only good things was sitting at a outdoor table with a view to that beautiful...

Hubby and I decided to have lunch in town after a late morning appointment. He had often suggested "Robert Harris", but I had not had a very good experience last year with a friend. However I decided to try it again, but it was disappointing service, so definitely NEVER again. Hubby's meal was served promptly and I waited and waited for mine. A staff member served people who came after us their meal so obviously mine had been forgotten. Hubby asked where mine was. I watched as they got it out of the cabinet and put it in the microwave to heat. When it was served I was not given any apology until I asked why it had taken so long. I then needed to get up and go to the counter to get some salt and pepper for the salad as yes I enjoy cucumber with it. Staff member seemed to think I was a nuisance and grudgingly gave sachets to me. Once I thought Robert Harris (in other places) were really into customer service, but if you want it from Matamata then go elsewhere. Shame really as...
