Momento Espresso Matamata — Restaurant in North Island

Not typically one to write a bad review but I feel like I need to balance the glowing reviews here with our experience. Please note, this is after taking it up with the owner so not a ninja attack! Food OK, not extravagant, which was fine. But the service, oh my god! Having ordered from someone who couldn't seem to careless and later raising an issue. The issue was realising we wanted an additional accompaniment with a meal we assumed would be part of it. Happy to pay for it. Instead of a swift accommodation, we had a wait as if a whole new meal was being prepared. So when this did arrive, the meal was finished, otherwise it would have been left to go cold. Raising that this wasn't acceptable, the we had the owner come to the table waving dockets in our faces to tell us how wrong we were to complain and essentially claiming we were lying about the timing of our orders. Could not understand the simple mistake they had made and instead decided to have a go at us in front of the whole cafe. Beautiful women taking the orders and making the coffees. Cafe was nice and tidy. The chef tho, had poor hygiene. Touching dirty dishes from tables, her cell phone, her nose and face. All while cooking. I wanted to get a refund but we had somewhere to be a time wasn’t on our side. Food was average. Oil did not splash on her face. She was on the opposite side of the oven, cell phone in one hand and other hand wiping her nose. She continued to wipe her nose while cooking. She didnt wash her hands once. Other customer dishes and cell phones are even more unhygienic. Regardless who is cooking and staffing this should be maintained...

Perfect cinnamon scroll. Best fries. And amazing ciabatta. Usually ciabatta is tricky to cut through the crunchy crust and kinda chewy - this bread blew my mind. I reckon they put some butter on it then toasted it. Yum as!

We were a large group of 15+ rocking up on a Sunday morning. The staff were so awesome - told us at the till there was a small wait on food, though the food came quickly and was really yum.
