We had a celebration dinner on the 22nd with 6 adults and 2 children. We were greeted immediately and shown to our table. The service was very polite and they did the best they could. The place was packed on a Tuesday night and they weren't expecting it, as I found out by following up the next day so they were a bit short staffed. This did not stop us from an enjoyable evening.
The Tiger on tap was delightfully cold and went down a treat for us all. The food was yummy, we started out with 'The Whole Shebang' platter. Omgoodness, next time this is definitely a table starter. So many tasty treats to have and everything was delicious. The pate tasted home made, pork belly bites were hard to share because we didn't' want to, and don't get me started on the homemade duck spring rolls. The flavor was sublime.
Main meal items we had and would order again Hamburger was made with fresh meat, always a plus Fish and Chips a wonderful classic and cooked well Parmesan Sammie was tasty Pork Belly was everything you wanted it to be Pork Schnitzel was plentiful but a bit dry, the apple salad was super fresh and tasty. Kids pizza's were good, they thought the sauce a bit unusual for pizza. ?
Will definitely dine here again, we felt the meals were value for money, and the service...
Read moreThe Redoubt Bar & Eatery clearly relies on being mentioned in the Lonely Planet and the tourist customers this brings. I had the Shrimp Cocktail, my partner the Fish & Chips. Both dishes, while nicely presented, were small to the point of being a children's dish and void of flavour. The Shrimp Cocktail came in a "Thousand Island" dressing which tasted like mayonnaise straight out of the jar. No bread was served with it so you really ordered a bunch of (admittedly fresh) shrimps drowned in mayonnaise. The fish was more batter than fish which was cruely overcooked in the fryer and tasted burned. With it came what must have been a handful of sorry looking chips. The "tartare" sauce had brown & dried out capers on top of it. The base of the sauce had no discernable flavour. Overall a massive disappointment and the worst food we were served on a two week New...
Read moreI have nothing but admiration and praise for the young staff at the Redoubt Bar who tended to us yesterday. My brother and I walked in with our mother, who had had a bad fall where she had smashed her face and broke her wrist. She literally looked like she'd had a round with Joseph Parker. She had just come out of Auckland hospital and we were en route to Tauranga. Immediately your staff cleared the aisle of stools, brought a padded chair and a cushion for her and tended to us so earnestly. As mum was queasy all she wanted was toast and the little platter that arrived for her was beautiful. Our lunch was great, and well needed after the night in hospital. THANK YOU for your outstanding care, hospitality and the dignity you showed us. It meant a heck of a lot to us after the previous few days of turbulence we had endured. You...
