Over the years ive given muffin break quite a few chances to blow me away with just service; food; coffee. And yet every time (and I do mean EVERY time) at the various locations I have had to endure some of the worst wannabe cafe experiences to date. Customer service is standard with most of their staff barely looking at you when they finally decide you've waited long enough and put down whatever they're doing or surreptitiously end their oh-so-important gossip brags with colleagues to come over and take your order before going right back to what they were doing as if you were a minor inconvenience to quickly get out of the way and make their day of bakery hell somewhat more tolerable. Once that's done you get the wait. And wait. And wait. Once you eventually get your order you'll have had time to contemplate existence and perhaps ponder if they'd gone to America to hand pick beans for their coffee and roast them before throwing them in what can only be called citrus a la caffeine. Every encounter, at every outlet, with any of their staff brewing always results in the mother of all bitter coffee experiences I've ever had. And forget about trying to consume this calamity in a cup because like lava it'll burn your face off. So you have to wait again after lousy service, chronic waiting, and bitter coffee that'll remove several layers of your taste buds like no ghost chilli ever could. Why is the coffee so bad? Rotation & over extracting. They don't rotate their beans properly (or with any professional sense) thus beans they ordered over a week ago are steadily going bad while they sit and wait to reach your cup. That's the problem with coffee beans, they go off within 7 days like any fruit but u like a banana you can see slowly turning brown to the point of 'this needs to be thrown out' coffee doesn't LOOK off, but the aroma always gives it away. If anyone were doing this simple check their coffee may improve. I say 'may' because seeing how they operate I strongly suspect even if they knew their beans were off they'd still serve them to you. You know, money money money. On top of this I watched their pour and of course they're over extracting which means they're letting the pour go far longer than it should so after capturing the body of the coffee and creme they're letting it go go go. The result being that of a brew akin to biting into a lemon. Then, of course, no one taught them how to tamper the milk properly so naturally they let that go go go too cooking that latte to a super 100 degree lava supreme. Yummy yum! In short okay food, standard pricing with crappy service and even crappier coffee. Piece of advice muffin break, stick to muffins. Leave the cafe part to the...
Read moreI had an American breakfast muffin and a flat white. The muffin was toasted, but the egg was really cold, it should have been reheated. After the first bite, I realise the egg wasn't fresh, cos in the inside it was grey. So I asked if I could have something else instead. No big deal, it can happen, I was still happy if I had another muffin instead. I don't think I made a big deal, really. The reason for this 1 star, is based on the reaction of the man in the kitchen that received this muffin in a bad state, and threw it to the floor with anger, causing an unnecessary unpleasant atmosphere. The flat white was good. This took place yesterday...
