The Barracks Sports Bar Wanganui — Restaurant in North Island

We were a sizeable group with other sizeable groups in to a 'reserved' table. Knowing that, should have enabled the staff to be better prepared for the numbers. While the food was amply portioned, a few things were remiss. I had asked about ordering of desserts when the menu order was being taken. Some restaurants prefer your order the entire meal at once, while others prefer to take the order course by course. It was explained 'we will come around again later to take dessert orders'. Great - that was fine. It was clear and I understood that. But NOBODY came to ask for any orders of desserts when it was obvious people had finished their starters and mains. By now the table was cluttered with starter and mains plates, cutlery etc. Nothing had been cleared. So we took it upon ourselves to shuffle plates, cutlery and anything else not needed and put them on an unused neighbouring table, so we could all enjoy a clutter free table. Birthday cake was yet to come. And again ... members of our table went and got plates and forks ... All up - the company was lovely. The food was 'fair'. The service was 👎 ... although when service was in attendance it was polite and helpful. And yes - my husband did give feedback to the staff. Maybe it was an 'off night' but that is no excuse for shoddy customer service. It was interesting watching the dynamics of staff, and the entire room. Would I eat here again? Most likely not. I am so impressed with this place. Very clean, inviting, and comfortable atmosohere. Greeted with a warm welcome from the bar staff, and the lunch selection was excellent. It was topped with a great price for lunch, including our coffees. We ordered 2 crumbed tarakihi meals with salad and chips, Absolutely delicious. They have a lot to offer for private events, different sized rooms, and outdoor secure dining. They cater for all age groups and have created a space where you can dine with your children and relax, knowing there is a ping pong table for restless kiddies. Such a nice surprise. What a fantastic meal and the service from the waitress was outstanding. I loved my twice cooked pork belly and the wife had scallops and I was astounded at the size of the meals and pleasantly surprised at the cost of each meal.

We were a table of 9 people and everyone was impressed with Shaylee's professionalism and her care particularly with the young children. Well done Shaylee, and I hope the management sees this review and acknowledges your.customer service professionalism.
