So disappointing, this once great venue has fallen so far. Went in front bar, cold and unwelcoming, and the new paint job they have given they place is disgusting, a puke blue/green, the old patterned wallpaper was far more colorful and modern. 2 staff members just sitting at a table doing nothing until I approached the bar... The young lady who served me, looked rough as guts, no uniform or tidy clothing, not even fashionable or smart casual, just untidy rough clothing. I asked for just a portion of scrambled eggs, but she did not listen to what I wanted and immediately said I wanted the basic brunch which included eggs, toast, bacon and hash brown... But all I wanted was a side of eggs. I also saw they had Speights Summit Ultra in the fridge so I asked for 1... You would naturally assume you are given a standard serve, pint or bottle... But she immediately took out and served me a crate bottle instead, not what I wanted and half went to waste. When the eggs finally came out, they were tasteless and the texture poor, worst scrambled eggs I've had in a while. Looking around, it was disappointing to see that the new owners NZ Venues have not invested any money in upkeep of this venue, all the leather on the stools were all badly cracked, looked really tacky, and the TAB counter facade is pealing/falling of and looks rough as guts. I decided to have a punt and went to place a bet, and the Duty Manager, the only staff member, did not know how to place the bet I requested, I had to show her what to do. I also looked around for the TAB printouts and form guides, but nothing was posted on the TAB wall or printed out... I asked the Duty Manager where the printouts were, and she said quite honestly, 'she could not be bothered', that the staff on later in the day could do them...I was amazed she told me this, just so lazy and she did not care at all. What hurts me the most, is I used to be a previous General Manager of this venue and I took pride in how the place looked, and the old owners who employed me, Trinity Group, had pride in their venues and we're willing to spend money keeping them up to standard... How has this venue fallen so far? The current owners and managers...
Read moreTucked away in the heart of Wellington, The Relm is a local pub that manages to combine cozy vibes with top-notch food. We swung by for their famous Sunday roast, and let me tell you, it was a game-changer.
From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel right at home. The service was spot-on, friendly without being in-your-face, and just as attentive as you'd find at any fancy restaurant. Seriously, I've been to a lot of places, and the team here set a new standard.
But let's talk food. For $25 a plate, The Relm's Sunday roast is a steal. Our meal came with a side of baked cheese cauliflower and a main plate that had beef rump, crispy potatoes, pumpkin, and a Yorkshire pudding.
The baked cheese cauliflower was fresh out of the oven and absolutely hit the spot. It was the perfect complement to the rest of the meal. The potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the pumpkin was cooked to perfection, holding its shape and flavor.
The rump roast was the highlight. It was cooked medium-rare, with a tenderness that made every bite a pleasure. The subtle charcoal grill aftertaste added an unexpected twist that was out of this world. And that Yorkshire pudding? Perfect for soaking up the delicious gravy.
Speaking of gravy, it was so good I found myself wishing for a little extra on the side. But that's just me being greedy because it was seriously that good.
I came in a bit skeptical, but The Relm blew me away. They nailed it, making this the go-to spot for a Sunday roast in Wellington. Locals, don’t sleep on this – it might just be the best...
Read more17 of us tonight and the food was terrible. What happened to this place? The fire use to be roaring and the food was always on point/delicious - and even though it’s a Monday, it use to be way more busier. The food was terrible, hardly anything available on the menu, wings over cooked, steak chewy. The burgers were great and the host was so nice, she was on her own - thank you for taking the wings off our docket, the second star is for you. We wanted to support local but unfortunately, I don’t think we will be back, hopefully things will improve.
Edit - I called ahead to confirm the kids menu and it would have been nice to have been told then and there that most items would not be available. Using the excuse of transitioning to a new menu is not good enough, especially from a place that use to be quite up there in quality - but furthermore, to not offer a reprieve off experiencing the new menu is just rude. Will...
