Dinner @ Yor Yak Thai Eatery. . Didn't realise I'd arrived on their local labour day weekend, so many places were closed for business that day. . A good online search revealed this place, the most highly rated amongst those shops that were open. . The version of Khao Kluk Kapi here is a Thai Kiwi rendition, featuring a base of fried rice infused with chili shrimp paste, savoury salty spicy shrimpy in flavour with grainy fluffy firm texture, and a lingering heat that kicks sharply and builds as you eat. . The khao kulk kapi is accompanied by several sides, including crisp juicy cucumber slices with vegetal sweet flavour, crunchy steamed cauliflower and broccoli florets with vegetal sweet flavour. . Also soft salted egg with salty eggy flavour, tender soy caramelised pork loin and white onion strips with meaty salty savoury sweet flavour, and crisp deep-fried snapper fish fillets with sweet savoury salty flavour. . Read moreHad to try this place out after they charged ownership from ThaiTara to YorYak. Have to admit my expectations weren’t high but now that I’ve tried their food I have to say it exceeded what I expected. Went with my friend, we ordered Thai fish cake, Thai style fried chicken (marinated in fish sauce I believe so),steamed prawn wonton, fillet fish pla yum tah krai and beef massamun curry. The fish cakes were amazing different from usual Thai place that serves small skinny ones. The fried chicken was also good the taste wasn’t overwhelming and it was fried with just the right way. The prawns wontons were good I love their little touch on it and added a bit of mala making it seem like a Thai fusion which was amazing, though I believe the prawns were slightly over-cooked it was slightly hard. Now the beef massamun curry I have to give it to them it was the best I’ve had among Thai place in Wellington. It wasn’t bland it wasn’t watery it was just right it does get a bit salty after you eat it for a while but that’s normal. I personally cannot stand onions especially red onions I despite them. But despite it having red onions in it, it did not overpowering the dish at all. It was all perfectly balanced. I highly recommend this place and all of their food! I will be back, thank you for your...
Read moreReally interesting place. It is in the process of change at the moment regarding their menu(s), so it's an interesting time to visit. Some of their food is traditional, some modified, some new and more changes planned in the future (so the owner told us) It really wasn't what I expected. I ordered a traditional dish and it was OK, and so did my wife, and hers was really nice, but, we were given a free dish and it was amazing! I would not have ordered this dish normally but so glad we got to try it (curried crab). It was a modified version and it was really clever, and delicious. Service was prompt despite it being completely full so they did an amazing job at keeping everyone happy. We're definitely planning to go there again to try some more of their more unique dishes, I think I'll let them order for me next time!😆 They also do takeaways and have a limited list of wines and the usual other alcoholic beverages but also they have at least 2 types of original Thai beers. Price was very...
